Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.

Well our spring did not last long and we’re back in the deep freeze again.

In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: Ash Wednesday services will be held on March 5 at 7 p.m. at St John’s.  Thereafter Lenten services will alternate between St. John’s and Kongsvinger.  The final Bible study will between services at Kongsvinger will be on March 2.

In Good Shepherd Lutheran Church news: Ash Wednesday services will be held at 7 p.m. on March and every Wednesday following until Holy Week.

Starting March 4, weekly bible studies on the Augsburg confession will be held Tuesdays until after Easter at Good Shepherd at 9 a.m.

The Church of the Assumption of Mary in Morris will have guest speakers on the Sundays of Lent.  Contact the church office for more details.

There will a community hymn sing at Good Shepherd at 2 p.m. on March 9. This is the last one that has been scheduled, but if your church would like to participate in one, contact Ken or Linda Hodgson.

On March 16, the senior high youth will be holding a basket auction and pancake breakfast to raise funds for a trip to Flathead Lutheran Bible Camp in Montana.  

West Central Christian Homes will have their annual meeting on March 9 at 1:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church of Morris.

ELCA Glacial Ridge conference assembly will be held on March 9 at 1:30 p.m. at Glenwood Lutheran Church.  

The Church of the Assumption of Mary in Morris will have a St. Patrick’s dinner on March 16 at the church from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. The World Day of Prayer will be held at Federated Church on Friday, March 7 beginning at 1:30 p.m. Refreshments will follow.

Stevens County Habitat for Humanity will have a pork chop fundraiser on March10 at the Morris American Legion beginning at 4:30 p.m.

On March 3, the Red Hatters will meet at the Herman Bar and Grill at 9 a.m. Also, the bookmobile will be in Donnelly at HD & Co. at 3:30 p.m.   That is also the day for the ciity council and Rendsville 4-H meetings at 7 p.m. in the fire and community halls in Donnelly.

The Donnelly community club will have their annual meeting on March 10.

Lori Mau is the new postmistress in Donnelly.

The 2014 Runestone Telephone Association directories are now out. Extra copies can be obtained at HD & Co. in Donnelly.

The Stevens County Genealogical Society will have their first meeting of the year on March 6 at the West Wind Village, Atlantic Avenue, room 108 at 1:30 p.m.

Scott and Ione Ringler of Winona, announce the engagement of their daughter, Chelsea Ringler, to Devin Hormann, son of Dean and Leila Hormann of Starbuck. Devin’s grandfather is former Donnelly area resident John Delong.

Rodney Koser of Elbow Lake passed away on Feb. 19.   Survivors include his sister, former Donnelly area resident Vonna Jane (Ben) DeLong of Alexandria.

The Knights of Columbus free throw contest winners include Brandon Jergenson (10 yr. olds) Jackson Loge alternate.

Brooke Gillespie was named to the honor roll at Chokio-Alberta High School.

In the past week Steve Fults and I attended the Jay McNamar town hall meeting and the meeting of the Stevens County Republican Party executive committee at DeToy’s.   The Stevens County Republican county convention is planned for March 7 at the Morris American Legion at 7 p.m. and the District 11 convention is at the Elbow Lake school on March 22.

Jeanne Ennen and I attended the FFA alumni supper and meeting at the Morris Area High School, and the baptism of the Franks’ twins at Kongsvinger. Mark Koepke and I attended the community meal in Morris on Monday and worship services at the West Central Homes with Pastor Mary Dodgson preaching.  Afterwards we visited my aunt Pearl and Virginia Long there.
