Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.  

winter has arrived early this year. Several inches of snow fell this week, making it a winter wonderland out there.  Schools dismissed early and most events in the area were cancelled or postponed on Wednesday due to the weather.  

In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: St. John’s meat raffle will be held on Dec. 8.  Tickets are available from any St. John's member or at the parish office.

The Kongsvinger Lutheran Church Women advent brunch will be held on Dec. 12 at 9:30 a.m. Please note the change of date.

The Sunday school program will be held on Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. followed by a time of fellowship. There will be only one performance this year.

St. John’s WELCA meeting has been postponed to Dec. 10 at 1:30 p.m.

From Good Shepherd Lutheran Church:  the Sunday school program will be held on Dec. 15 during the regular church services at 9 a.m. In the afternoon, there will be a dedication service for the new addition followed by an open house.

There will be a poinsettia garden in St. John’s  and Kongsvinger this year.  Contact the parish office (246-3211) for more details. Good Shepherd will also have one.  You can sign up in the back or call the church at 585-6868

A living nativity service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris on Christmas eve at  3:00 and 5:15 p.m.

World mission mart will be held at the Federated Church in Morris on Dec. 8 from  9 a.m. 2 p.m.

There will be a holiday tea at Federated Church of Morris on Dec. 11 from 2-5 p.m.

A community hymn sing will be held on Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. at First Lutheran Church of Morris.  There will be a hymn sing each month.     Subsequent ones will be held in January at Faith Lutheran, in February at  Assumption Church, and in March at Good Shepherd Church.

Saturday, Dec. 7 is a busy day with a number of open houses, bake sales, craft fairs, bazaars and other events happening around Morris. The museum, Senior Center and the PRCA all have events that day.

The Pedersen Funeral Home will have their annual Time of Remembrance on Dec. 8 at 4 p.m.

Congratulations to Jonna Moser, who received the most improved award for the tenth grade as a Morris Area High School student of the quarter.

Beth Holland received the 2013 Merle felstul award at Morris Area High School.

Mark Koepke was my guest for thanksgiving dinner on Nov. 27.  Over the past week we also attended thanksgiving  eve services at Good Shepherd as well as the open house at Unger Furniture.  Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the Christmas hymn sing in Herman and helped decorate the church at Good Shepherd.  I attended visitation and the funeral for Majorie Armstrong.
