Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.  This week’s issue is dedicated to the memory of my dad, who passed away on Oct. 31, 2005.

Most of the past week has been cloudy, cool and rainy with only occasional sunshine. Farmers are now busy making up for lost time getting the corn and other crops out.

In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: Makayla Mau and Mason Dunn will be confirmed on Oct. 27, during joint services at Kongsvinger, at 11 a.m.There will be joint services at Kongsvinger on Nov. 3, at 11 a.m. followed by a welcome dinner for Pastor Mary.

From Good Shepherd Lutheran Church:  a study on Luther’s large catechism will be starting soon.

John Michael Talbot will be in concert at the Chuch of the Assumption of Mary in Morris on Oct. 27-29 at 7 p.m. each night.

Rev. John Smith, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus is retiring. His last service will be Nov. 3. There will be a worship service at 10:45 a.m., followed by a dinner and program at 2 p.m.

A Scandinavian heritage dinner will be held at First Lutheran Church of Morris on Nov. 6 from 3-7 p.m.

A halloween party will be held at the Donnelly Hall on Sunday, Oct. 27 from 3-5 p.m.  Costume judging takes place at 4 p.m.  

There will be a nonprofit expo at the Morris Area high school gym on Oct. 28 from 5-7:30 p.m.

The Stevens County Genealogical society will meet on Nov. 7 at 1:30 p.m. at the library.

On Nov. 4, the Rendsville 4-H will meet at the fire hall  and the Donnelly city council will meet at the city at 7 p.m.   

The bookmobile will be in Donnelly on Oct. 28 at 3:30 p.m.

The Morris fifth and sixth grade tackle football team won the championship in Willmar recently. Brady Loge was a member of that team and his dad, Ryan was one of the coaches.

Kallan Roger Koehntop was born on Oct. 11 to Kyle and Mandi Koehntop of Morris. Grandparents are Parker and Renee Kloos of Donnelly and Roger and Bonnie Koehntop of Morris. Great grandparents are Herb and Carol Kloos, Gerald and Kay Laager, Wilfred and Doris Arens, and Maynard Koehntop.

Tiger sports boosters athletes of the week include Savannah and Rebekah Aanerud and Carly Gullickson.

Jerry and Joan Kopacek spent an enjoyable weekend at Luther Crest Bible Camp helping out with the camp’s Quilt Auction on Oct. 19.

Mark Koepke and I attended the customer appreciation breakfast at Willie’s Super Valu on Oct. 18.  That afternoon I attended the 97th birthday party for Flossie Mathison.

Duane Dahlen of Herman passed away on Oct. 15.  Survivors include his great aunt, Claudia Wilhite. I attended his visitation on Oct. 26 in Elbow Lake.

Mark Koepke and I attended the Morris Area school board meeting in Donnelly on Oct. 21. Afterwards we visited Herb and Carol Kloos.

On Oct. 22, I attended a presentation in Elbow Lake on “Going to Work: The New Deal in Minnesota” by Doug Ohman.

On Oct. 23, Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended Bible study at Good Shepherd. I then went to the West Wind Village for the presentation “School House Memories.” That evening I attending “Cemeteries of Minnesota” at the Morris library both by Doug Ohman.

October is fire prevention month and we salute the men and women of the Donnelly fire and rescue squad.
