It's a mix of incumbents filing for city re-election
Filings have opened for local city council positions.
In Morris, mayor Sheldon Giese and council member Brian Solvie said they would file for re-election. Council member Jeff Miller said he had not yet decided.
In Hancock, mayor Bruce Malo has filed for re-election. Council member Jeff Kisgen said he's filed the paperwork but may still withdraw from the election. Council member Jeff Flaten said he's uncertain if he will file.
Both mayors said they've enjoyed their public service.
"I've never had any real serious incidents," Malo said. "Nothing that I couldn't handle peacefully."
Giese said, "I have accomplished many things during my three terms as mayor. I would like to serve a fourth term to see the water treatment facility completed and hopefully see a community solar program get started for the citizens."
Solvie said he likes the teamwork of the council.. "I like being part of this team and working with city management to do the things necessary to make Morris a great place to live," Solvie said.
"The main reason I am running for re-election is that I feel the current city council really cares about the needs of the city," Solvie said.
The filing period opened on July 31 and closes at 5 p.m. Aug. 14.
