Wadena County workers will absorb 4.2 percent health care cost rise

Wadena County Commissioners approved a plan for county workers to pay an additional 4.2 percent next year for their health insurance premiums, which is less than their insurers, NJPA and HealthPartners had proposed.

The insurers had proposed a 5.73 percent increase for 2010, but made a concession of 1 percent, while workers voted in a survey to accept some adjustments to their coverage to achieve the 4.2 percent level.

The county board also approved a small bump to Cafeteria dollars for employees. The dental coverage through Delta Dental will go up 7 percent in 2010 (and a projected 2 percent in 2011). Long-term care insurance remained steady. Long-term disability saw premiums actually decrease -- by 8 percent.

Wadena County Health Insurance Committee members Deb Nelson and Paul Sailer presented the numbers to the board, and also discussed with commissioners the necessity to go back and issue a Request for Proposals for January 2011 for future coverage.
