April 14 – 20 is National Library Week, a time to celebrate libraries and their staff. Stop in and say hi.

The Friends of the Library is sponsoring an author event for Thursday, April 11 at 2 p.m. in the library meeting room. Frederick Blanch is a Minnesota author whose book, Last Words was nominated for a Minnesota Book Award in 2010. His book is a combination biography and dictionary. The format is a dictionary and his definitions relate to events in his life. It is quite unique. Join us if you can. Refreshments are provided by the Senior Center.

Our display case this month features a Beatrix Potter collection of books and other themed decorations. Beatrix Potter is the author of the Peter Rabbit children’s books including characters such as: Benjamin Bunny, Tom Kitten, Jeremy Fisher, Floppsy, Moppsy and Cottontail. The display case is booked through August, but if you have a collection you would like to share, contact the library to schedule a month to display it – 320-589-1634.

A library foundation has been created through the West Central Initiative Fund. The advisory board consists of Adele Cotter, Vicki Dalager, John Luetmer, Evy Rodne-Cole, Holly Witt, Kim Ukura and me. If you would like to share your wishes and dreams for the library, please talk to one of us. There will be future updates from this group and plenty of opportunities to make donations. We have already received an anonymous donation of $10,000, so we are well on our way to success with this fund.

The Friends of the Morris Public Library recently purchased three bookcases for the library. We thank them for their continued support and donations to the library. One of the bookcases will display books for sale year-round. Books are $.50 for paperbacks and $1.00 for hard cover books. All proceeds go to the Friends’ group. If you have not already discovered these books, come take a look. The bookcase is just inside the front doors. The other two bookcases will serve as display cases for special collections throughout the year.

This year’s library budget includes improvements to the building. The floor in the staff area will be replaced with tile and the carpeting in the meeting room will be replaced. This process will take several weeks in April and May. During this time there will be some disruptions to our daily routine. Please bear with us through the process. We will keep you posted on our progress.
