MORRIS, Minn. - A quiet teenage who prefers to stay out of the spotlight was named Volunteer of the Year by Pay it Forward Stevens County.

Teague Picht received the award at the 2017 year end celebration for Pay It Forward Stevens County, held Feb. 7 at the Morris Pizza Ranch.

Pay It Forward Stevens County founder Rob Lucus said, “Tonight we are surrounded by examples of what it means to put others needs ahead of our own, to volunteer with no expectations of paybacks or favors.  … I look out on each and every one of you, so thankful for the time and talent you have dedicated to helping out your friends, your neighbors and even strangers. … You truly are an inspiration and for that, we say thank you.”

The 2016 volunteer of the year, Ken Lindor, was on hand to announce Picht as the committee’s pick for the award.

Picht was nominated for the Pay it Forward Stevens County award by high school teachers Nick Milbrandt and Peg Rinkenberger.

Picht was very active at Morris Area High School including taking leadership roles in the FFA chapter, helping with food drop events and student council.

Those who nominated him said Picht is responsible, goes beyond what is asked when he helps, often volunteers without being asked and is willing to help find solutions to problems.

Other community residents recognized in 2017 by the Pay It Forward group included Verna Zeiher, Ardath Larson, Audrey Erickson, Algene Larson, Wesley Bratten, Teague Picht, Roger Gerdes, Joanne Hagstrom, Pam Gades and Pat Kieffer.

Pay it Forward Stevens County is a program designed to reward individuals who make life better for other people in our community.

The program is sponsored by Morris Pizza Ranch, Bank of the West, KMRS/KKOK Radio, West Central Screen and Print, the Regional Fitness Center, Superior Industries/WestMor/Hancock Concrete, Shear Designs,  Stevens Community Medical Center, and The Stevens County Times.

Nominations can be dropped off at any of the participating businesses. The committee meets once a month to review nominations.
