News from the Morris Public Library • By Melissa Yauk, Library Director

The Library will be closed most of July for repairs from water damage in June. During the week of July 7, the library will be closed with no staff on site. Materials can always be returned to the book drop.

The library will open again with limited hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday  through Saturday beginning July 14. The side door will be open to pick-up materials, but the collection will be closed to the public. You may reserve items online and they will be pulled for you.

Your library card is valid at other Viking Library System libraries, including Hancock, Elbow Lake, Glenwood, Wheaton, Browns Valley, Fergus Falls and the Douglas County Library in Alexandria. In addition, the Bookmobile makes stops in Alberta, Barrett, Chokio, Cyrus, Herman, Hoffman, Kensington, and Starbuck. UMM Briggs Library has computers for use by the public as well.

Storytime has been cancelled for July 10. All other story time and Summer Reading Program events will take place in the library meeting room as scheduled.

The last big Summer Reading Program event is Zinghoppers, a mixed media dance party which promotes reading and having fun at the library. It will be held Thursday, July 24 at 4 p.m. outside the library. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets. etc.  In case of rain, the event will be moved to First Lutheran Church, 200 East 6th Street in Morris.

The Friends of the Library Annual Book Sale is postponed until further notice. There will not be a book sale this year during Prairie Pioneer Days.

On a happier note, a bus trip to Fort Snelling is being organized with the Hancock Library on Saturday, August 2. This trip is made possible through the Arts and Cultural Legacy Funding through Viking Library System. This is a free event, so sign up soon, if interested. Seats are limited. The bus leaves Morris at 7 a.m. and returns about 7 p.m. Lunch is the one you bring along. Food is not included in the trip. Contact the library for more information.

Thank you for your patience while the library undergoes repairs.
