Summer Reading Program runs June 9-July 31 this year, with the theme of “Paws to Read”. There will be a variety of activities to keep children engaged in literacy skills over the summer months. Children are encouraged to track their reading activities this summer to be included in drawings for prizes. Story time, Lunch Bunch and Book Bunch will involve reading opportunities for a variety of age groups. Movie Matinees will take place on four (4) Wednesdays. Guessing jars and word games will be ongoing. New this year is the opportunity to donate pennies for the Stevens Community Humane Society and Mercer, the therapy dog from Morris Area Schools, who will be on hand to encourage reading.

Check out the new chair covers in the Children’s area. The old, plastic covers were wearing thin.  Hannah Merrill was hired by the Friends of the Library to sew new corduroy chair colors in bright primary colors. They look great and should wear well.

In order to raise funds for the library, the ‘Friends’ have an annual book sale in July during Prairie Pioneer Days. Book donations are appreciated if you are house cleaning or wanting to find a new home for your books. Volunteers are also needed to set up and tear down the sale. Contact the Library, if interested.

The next Computer Basics class is scheduled for Saturday, June 21 with Peter Bremer who will answer your technology related questions. It will be in the computer area of the library at 9 a.m. The library does not open until 10 a.m., so if you plan to attend, be sure to use the side entrance, off the alley.

In our display case for June is a collection of bunny rabbits belonging to Dawn Poore, which will correlate well with our ‘Paws to Read’ program.  If you have a collection you would like to display for a month in the library, contact us at 320-589-1634.

The library is closed Friday, July 4 for Independence Day.
