News from the Morris Public Library

It has been a harsh winter and the library has had to close a couple of evenings in January. Unplanned closings are announced on the radio, posted to our webpage and hopefully, recorded on our phone voicemail. We apologize for any inconvenience due to early closings.

A review of the year’s activities indicates a busy one with 419 new registrations, 378 donated items added to collection, and $11,670 collected in fines, copies, donations, lost/damaged materials, magazine issues and new library cards. While circulation and walk-in traffic is down, wi-fi and digital access is up. People are still reading, but using the building in different ways. The collection is well used with something for everyone.

Our display case for February is a collection of dragon figures belonging to Tim Poore. If you have a collection you would like to display for a month in the library, contact us at 320-589-1634.

Eric Buchanan has served three terms on the library board and his term limit is up. He has served the library well and I am sorry to see him go. Thank you Eric! The City Council appoints Library Board members and in the future if you would like to serve in this capacity, contact the Library or City Hall. In the meantime, Mayor Sheldon Giese has been appointed to serve on the Library Board. We welcome his participation.

Due to a staff resignation, there is a 20 hour part time position open at the library. This is a union position with the city and requires evenings and Saturday hours.

The library has a collection of some 60 print and 84 digital magazines that can be checked out for one week or downloaded to your digital device via Zinio.
