Suspects in armed robbery in Cyrus apprehended outside Albany

CYRUS (4:30 p.m.) – Three suspects in a possible armed robbery near Cyrus were apprehended by the Minnesota State Patrol after a 20 mile chase along Interstate 94 on Wednesday morning.

At approximately 8:15 Wednesday morning, the Pope County Sheriff's Department received a call from a third party reporting a robbery near Cyrus along with a vehicle description, Sheriff Tim Riley said.

At about 8:45 a.m., two Minnesota State Troopers spotted a vehicle matching the description near Sauk Centre. When the troopers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled eastbound along I-94 going as fast as 88 miles per hour.

The state patrol used a device to deflate the tires of the vehicle near Freeport, but the vehicle continued on several deflated tires. A trooper performed a “pursuit intervention technique” which ran the vehicle off the interstate and through a freeway fence near Albany.

In total, the chase covered about 20 miles and lasted approximately 15 minutes.

The three suspects – two adult males and one adult female – were taken into custody without further resistance.

Riley said the incident is still under investigation.
