Donnelly News

After several weeks of snow, cold and icy conditions, the weather has moderated some and it has been nice enough to be out and about.

In St. John’s/ Kongsvinger news: Lenten services will be at St. John’s on March 6 and at Kongsvinger on March 13at 7 p.m. There will be coffee and fellowship afterwards.

St. John’s in Donnelly is serving a St. Patrick’s Day pancake breakfast from 10 a.m. -1 p.m. Sunday, March 17.  They will have their annual St. Pat’s party at 2 p.m. on March 15 at the West Wind Village.

From Good Shepherd Lutheran Church: Lenten services will continue every Wednesday at 7 p.m. until March 20.

Ken Erlandson, the Director of Lutheran Island Bible Camp near Henning, Minn., will give a presentation on March 3 during adult education hour.

On March 3, there will be a family skating party at the Lee Community Center in Morris from 2-4 p.m. Bring your own skates or there will be some for rent.   Those not interested in skating can enjoy hot drinks and treats in the lunch room.

Other church news: A True Women Conference will be held at the Morris Evangelical Free Church beginning on March 12.

An open house 90th birthday party for John DeLong will be held at the LaFave House, 305 College Avenue, in Morris from 2-5 p.m. on March 10.

The Morris Eagle’s fish fry will be held March 9 at the Eagles’ Club to benefit the Morris Area High School gymnastic team from 5:30- 7 p.m.

Bar bingo will be held at Place To Be in Donnelly on March 8 and April 12.   Proceeds benefit the Donnelly fire department.

Ida Mae Lawson of Meridian, Idaho, passed away on Feb 12. Survivors include a nephew, former Donnelly area resident, Billy Madison.

Former Donnelly area resident Irving Sperr of Herman passed away on Feb. 23. Survivors include a brother, Neal, of Donnelly.

Henning Awsumb of Donnelly passed away on Feb. 24.  Survivors include his son, Craig and a daughter, Pat (Mark) Smith and their family.  He was a part of the Kongsvinger men’s quartet for over 50 years.

Former Pepperton Township resident Wynette, Mrs. Paul Strubbe, died Feb. 22. Survivors include Lynn Strubbe and Cora Strubbe.

Ryker Emmett Jones was born on Feb. 13 to Paige Strand and Jordan Jones.  Grandfather is Kelly Strand and great-grandfather is Vern Strand of Morris.

Matthew Lesmeister and Lacey Hanson announce they will be wed April 2, 2013 in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.  Matthew’s parents are Jerry and Jane Lesmeister and the late Jeanne Lesmeister and his grandmother is Shirley Holman.

Michael Burke, son of Pat and Carol Burke of Donnelly is engaged to Lauren Hefty.

Beth Holland, a junior at the Morris Area Schools, has been selected as one of the Minnesota State High School League’s 2013 ExCEL Award recipients.  She will be recognized during the state girls’ basketball tournament. Bryce Jergenson was also nominated to represent Morris Area High School.

Sara Stallman was given a character roundup award by Pizza Ranch.

Jim and Lou Eystad attended the funeral service for Dennis Stahn.

On Feb. 21, I attended the open house at Accelerated Chiropractic and Snap Fitness in Morris.

Steve Fults and I attended the Westrom/ McNamer town hall meeting in Morris on Feb. 22.  That evening, we attended the Stevens County Republican meeting.   A special thank you was extended to our long time treasurer Andy Brevig who decided to retire this year.

Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the baptism of Freddy Hanson at St. John’s in Starbuck on Feb. 24.  Later I attended the visitation and prayer service for Orval Bratten.  In the evening, I attended the Worldview conference in Morris.

Mark Koepke and I attended the community meal in Morris on Feb. 25.

George and Elaine Harstad and I attended the visitation for Irving Sperr in Herman on Feb. 26, and later the visitation and prayer service for Henning Awsumb in Morris.   Mark Koepke and I attended Henning’s funeral on Feb. 27.  That evening,  I attended supper and Lenten services at Good Shepherd.
