Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.

It rained most of last Friday and then froze in the evening, making for some very icy conditions in the area over the weekend. It has also been cold this week, with some light snow and drifting on Jan. 16.

From the St. John's/ Kongsvinger parish: the Kongsvinger annual meeting will be held following services on Jan. 20 with a potluck dinner after the meeting. The annual meeting for St. John's is on Jan. 27. Service times will switch on Jan. 27, with services at Kongsvinger at 8:30 a.m. and at St. John's at 11 a.m.

From Good Shepherd Lutheran Church: The baby shower scheduled for Pastor Mike and Martha was cancelled last weekend due to the weather, and will not be rescheduled. Any gifts you have for them can be left at the church.

Stevens County Habitat for Humanity is holding an all you can eat pancake fundraising breakfast at the Morris American Legion on Jan. 20. A free will donation will be collected.

A family movie night will be held on Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Morris Evangelical Free Church. The movie is based on the book, "Golf's Sacred Journey- Sevens Days at the Links of Utopia."

The last day for tying quilts for veterans in nursing homes will be Jan. 22 from 9 to 11 a.m. at St. John's Church. This event is sponsored by Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion auxiliaries. All are welcome to participate. For questions, contact Joan Kopacek at 246-3381.

An ice fishing contest will be held on Cottonwood Lake today (Saturday) from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. sponsored by the Donnelly Rod and Gun Club.

Due to the Martin Luther King Junior holiday on Monday, the Post Office will be closed.

Former Donnelly area resident Jeff Henrichs of Coon Rapids passed away on Jan. 16. Survivors include his mother Shirley, brothers Dennis, Keith, and Larry, and sister Sandy and their families.

This is paraeductor week. Those from the Donnelly area include Vicky Beyer, Sue Erdahl-Nelson, Deb Erickson, Kris Kloos, Lori Speer and Sharon VanHorn.

Chandler Erickson was named an AAA (academics, arts, and athletics) award winner from Chokio-Alberta High School.

Jeanne Ennen was recently elected vice-chair of the Stevens County board of commissioners.

The Rendsville 4-H Club was given the West Central Minnesota Communities Action Agency's community spirit award.

Rose Uhden and I attended the opening of the "Sheep to Shawl" exhibit at the Stevens County Museum on Jan. 10.

Joe and Linda Holland and I attended the FIRST robotics supper at the Morris Legion on Jan. 11.

Mark Koepke is now officially a resident of Morris after we moved him down here from West Fargo on Jan 10. We will be out and about more after he gets settled.

Steve Fults, Andy Brevig and I attended the Stevens County Republican party meeting on Jan. 13 in Morris. The date for the county convention is Feb. 22 and the Seventh District convention will be held in March in Bemidj.
