Superintendent's Report

Colin Powell was quoted as saying, "Organization doesn't really accomplish anything. Plans don't accomplish anything, either. Theories of management don't matter much either. Endeavors succeed or fail because of the people involved. Only by attracting the best people will you accomplish great deeds."

Admittedly, I strive to be an organized person who likes to plan things out as much as possible (and it works well for me). Consequently, I may not be in complete agreement with General Powell's entire quote. However, I wholeheartedly agree that attracting and retaining excellent people is our best way of accomplishing great things as a school district. Without quality staff, our district is not able to accomplish everything we want to and not at a high level.

Every one of our staff members is important, from the transportation person who may be the first school staff who students see in the morning to the teacher, coach, or advisor who may be the last person students see at the end of the day or night. During the day, a student will likely interact with an office manager, a member of the community education staff, a media manager, a paraeducator, several teachers, a food service staff member, a supervisor/director/administrator, and/or a member of the buildings and ground staff. Each school staff member has the ability to make a difference in the lives of our students, and I believe our staff accepts this willingly and takes this responsibility seriously.

On Wednesday, Dec. 12, our district will recognize the importance and contributions of staff members during our Seventh Annual Staff Appreciation Breakfast. This event is an opportunity to celebrate the fact that every one of our staff members is vital to the success of our school district. We will recognize 30 staff members (in five-year increments) for years of serving the students, parents, and communities in our district. It is amazing to me that our 179 staff members have a combined 2,371 years of experience in our district, or an average of over 13 years per staff member!

Passion, knowledge, consistency, and experience are valuable aspects that employees bring to their jobs, whatever that job may be. Experience can be one of the most important things a staff member has as they contribute each day to the district's mission and vision. In advance of Dec. 12, I would like to extend a thank you to all of our staff members... Thank you for all that you do for students, parents, community members, and each other.
