American Legion Riders stop in Morris
Approximately 20 member of the American Legion Riders stopped in Morris Saturday morning as part of a three-day ride from Mankato to Pine River.
The riders were taking part in the Minnesota Legacy Run 2012, which is meant to raise funds to help children attend higher education institutions after they were left in a single parent home since Sept. 11, 2001.
American Legion Post 29 donated $150, the Sons of the American Legion donated $150, and $165 was raised from a pancake breakfast.
The hope was to raise $50,000 in Minnesota for the two rides, one of which is this coming weekend in eastern Minnesota. When the Riders left Morris, the total was $10,565.
Saturday's ride started in Willmar and traveled through Morris, then on to Elbow Lake and Fergus Falls, and eventually Thief River Falls.
The American Legion Riders (ALR) was formed in fall of 1993 in Garden City, Mich., as a means to provide an atmosphere whereas Post, Auxiliary and S.A.L. members, who share an enthusiasm for motorcycles, to come together in a family oriented environment.
The objective is to support the aims and purposes of the American Legion, through service to our Community, State and Nation.
The American Legion Riders of Minnesota has slowly formed chapters in the intervening years. In 2010, through the work of various members, the Minnesota American Legion Riders were formed. The intent is to join all state chapters to support the primary fundraising activity the American Legion Riders have been tasked with.
