Ben Watters of the Jack and Jill Shop in Morris presented a dozen "trundle bundles" to the Stevens County Memorial Hospital. The scientifically designed sleeping garments for babies were accepted for the hospital nursery by Miss Lorraine Reimers and Mrs. Catherine Sheire of the hospital's staff of nurses.

The mobile x-ray unit of the Minnesota Department of Health arrived in Morris yesterday and last evening began the county-wide x-ray survey sponsored by the local Christmas Seal organization and the state Department of Health. County residents who will be x-rayed while the unit is in Morris are being advised by mail of their appointment times at the unit. All persons are urged to keep their appointments for free chest x-rays if at all possible.

A note from Supt. and Mrs. F.J. Fox, who with their daughter, Bobby Jo, are vacationing in the west, reports the family just missed being in the center of the severe earthquake which rocked a wide area in California on July 21. The Fox family had passed through the town of Tehachapi only a short time before the quake struck. Tehachapi, a town of 3,000, was the hardest hit by the quake. Its business district was left in rubble, more than a dozen persons where killed, and many others injured.

Margo Triepke is the manager of the G and K Western Store which opened recently in Morris. The new business is located next to the Coast To Coast Store on Atlantic Avenue and carries a complete line of western apparel and riding equipment. Mrs. Triepke is planning a grand opening celebration for some time in August.

Bishop George Speltz of the St. Cloud Diocese cemented the relics of a saint into the sepulchre of the alter in the chapel at the Villa of St. Frances during a solemn and sacred moment in the consecration of the alter. The ceremony was part of the dedication rites of the new wing of the nursing home that took place Thursday afternoon. The alter was donated for the chapel by Mrs. William A. Grossman of Hancock and the late Mr. Grossman. Attendance at the dedication was limited to about 100 laymen and clergy because of the size of the chapel.

John Ritter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Ritter, Chokio, has been selected as one of Minnesota's 4-H State Ambassadors for 1972-73. Some of John's duties as ambassador will be to assist with a variety of activities at the Minnesota State Fair, assist with recreation at the Market Livestock Show, assist in planning the 1973 Junior Leader Conference, assist with the state 4-H Public Speaking contest, help conduct the Junior Leader Conference in June 1973, appear on TV and radio on the behalf of 4-H, along with speaking at national, state, county or club meetings, and any other needs that arise at the state level.

The number is for use by all Minnesotans no matter where they telephone from. Information is available about federal job opportunities, qualification requirements, how to apply, and other federal job information.

Bob and Joan Stamm are the new owners of the Thedin Motel, Morris. They got an official welcome to this role by the Chamber of Commerce ambassadors Tuesday. Greeters included Chamber executive Gail Nelson, ambassador Laurie Kleespies, Morris royalty Laura Sommer, Chanda Searle and Bao Moua.

Our jails are becoming overcrowded and the majority of jail crowding is due to new DWI laws that require jail time. Sentencing to Service (STS) can reduce that jail overcrowding, according to Greg Potvin, regional coordinator for STS. He said the program is used for three different purposes: in lieu of jail, in lieu of fines, or as a condition of probation. Stevens County STS began Jan. 22.

The City Council appointed a committee Tuesday night to assist in coordinating the Atlantic Avenue improvements next year. Those appointed include: Randy Sutter, Dave Wente, Del Sarlette, Kelly McCann, Jerry Seibel, Doug Libby, Steve Loge and Roy Lucken.
