Thirty years of WeFest to be featured on Pioneer Public Television

APPLETON - Celebrate thirty years of WeFest as Pioneer Public Television's weekly program Postcards features the history of the musical festival Sunday, June 17 at 7:00 p.m.

"We were fortunate to be able to interview some of the present staff of WeFest, people who have been part of the event since the very beginning. We will take a look back on the early years with photos and archival video clips to learn a little more about the success of WeFest through the years," said Tim Bakken, Pioneer Public TV production director.

Celebrate the history of one of the nation's largest, and certainly one of Minnesota's most well-known, country music festivals. For thirty years WeFest has brought some of the nation's top country artists to the stage in a multi-day music event, and many of the individuals who have been a part of WeFest from the beginning reminisce with Pioneer Public TV.

Bakken, who has attended the musical festival in the past, thought Pioneer had a unique opportunity to tell the story of one of the nation's largest musical and camping festivals, one that was in Pioneer's very own "backyard."

"I thought that this would be a valuable production in the sense of history and culture and would fit in perfectly with our goal of preserving and telling the stories in our viewing area," Bakken said.

Postcards is a weekly program featuring the art, history and cultural heritage of western Minnesota and beyond. Postcards has given Pioneer the unique opportunity to tell the stories of many historical and cultural aspects of Minnesota, archiving stories that may one day be lost if they are left untold.
