Plans taking shape for Hancock All-School Reunion; letters to go out soon

Letters will be going out in the near future for the 2012 Hancock All-School Reunion. The letters will invite alumni, teachers and friends to celebrate "Past, Present and Future Owls" at the reunion July 6, 7 and 8 in Hancock.

The first event on the schedule for the reunion will be an Alumni Golf Tournament on Friday, July 6 to be held at Pomme de Terre golf club. The tournament is sponsored by Buddies Bar and Grill and the Hancock School Foundation. Those wishing to participate can sign up by contacting Kurt Hanson at or Joel Flaten at The cost is $65 per person, four person team scramble. The shotgun start is at 9 a.m.

All teams who enter will be eligible for prizes with a separate prize track for those who have four classmates on their team or combine two consecutive classes. Teachers past and present are also encouraged to form a team or teams. Deadline for registration is June 1.

Registration for the All-School Reunion will take place from 2 to 9 p.m. at the school on Friday. The evening will be open for class reunions and socializing with friends. Inn Like Flinn's and Buddies will be having entertainment that night.

Saturday will be the big day with events kicking off at 8 a.m. with the Hancock Lions 5K run and walk. Sign-up before hand with a Lions member, on line at the reunion web site or at Page Lake beach that morning.

The Hancock firemen will also be holding their traditional pancake feed that morning. There will be registration at the school during the morning for the reunion. Hours are from 8 a.m. to noon.

The Little League All-Star game will begin at 10 a.m. at the Little League field located on Lion Ave. The bank is also tentatively planning to do the coin search in sand near the Little League field.

Food stands and free entertainment will be at the Water Tower park starting at 11 a.m. The kiddie parade will line up by the park and start at 1 p.m. All children are welcome to participate in the parade.

The grand parade will line up at the school and start at 1:30 p.m. The Hancock Lions Club would like to encourage classes to have a float in this parade. Contact Joel Flaten at 320-392-5109 to sign up your float.

This will lead up to the evening events that will begin with a catered meal from 5 to 7 p.m. at the school. The cost for the meal is $10 per person with children under 5 free. To register for the supper, you can sign up on the web site or use the form included with the letter.

Following the meal, a program will start at 7:30 p.m. in the school gym. An Alumni choir will perform so if you are interested in being part of the choir, you can sign up for this in the same manner as the meal. The reunion program committee is looking for old sports, cheerleading and band uniforms, lettermen's jackets and other school memorabilia for the program. The evening will wrap up with a street dance at Inn Like Flinn's featuring the band Electric Almighty from 9 p.m. - 1 a.m. and fireworks at dusk.

On Sunday, the Hancock Christian Reformed Church will be celebrating their 100th anniversary with special services and a meal.

In conjunction, and to highlight the reunion, the Hancock Record is working on an All-School Reunion book and special section for the paper that week.
