New Technology for the English Department, Tiger Strength Program, and news from the FCCLA

I would like to share some good news from our English teacher Ms. Netter. Ms. Netter would like to thank the Morris Area Public School Foundation for graciously donating money to the English department that will go towards the purchase of new technology. Ms. Netter plans to use the money to purchase a document camera and a ceiling mounted projector. A document camera is a dynamic tool used primarily for shared reading. A document camera creates new opportunities for students when working on public speaking and presentation skills. Document cameras can also be used to fix up work that could use improvement, looking at different ways to solve problems, and to share exemplary work. When you get a chance, talk to Ms. Netter about how she is using her document camera in her English classrooms.

Tiger Strength Program

The second year of the Tiger Strength Program has been going great according to Mr. Viss and Mr. Pope. The weight room is open from 6:45 to 8:00 before school, and there has been an average of about 20 students every day. The strength program has also started the Record Weight Clubs. Students reach different Record Weight Clubs by adding their maximum lifts from their bench, squat, and power clean. Last year at this time three students reached the 900-pound club in October. This year, to date, seven students have reached the 900 pound club, five have reached the 1,000-pound club, three have reached the 1,100-pound club, and three have pushed their way into the 1,200-pound club. Keep up the good work!

News from the FCCLA

November 20-26 is National Family Week. Our Morris Family, Career, Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapter is sponsoring a "growing a thankful family tree" during both junior and senior high lunches. Each student will have the opportunity to place a leaf on the tree with something they are thankful for. Our chapter is trying to strengthen families in our community and is hoping our families will perform some type of family activity over National Family Week.
