Donnelly News

Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news. Please remember that if you planning on putting news in one of my mailboxes, please do so by Tuesday evening.

Most days during the past week have been sunny with fairly mild temperatures but some cold winds are a harbinger of what is to come. Most farmers in the area are done for the year. I talked to a former neighbor last night and he said the crop yields were fair this year.

News from the St. John's/Kongsvinger parish: There will be a lefsa making day today (Saturday) at 9 a.m. at Kongsvinger in preparation for the fall festival on Nov. 20. The festival will start at 11 a.m. If you want a ticket talk to me or somebody from the church. There will be Reclaim worship with Holy Communion on Nov. 13 at both churches.

The parish is collecting items for the food shelf during the month of November. Carts are located in the narthex of both churches to drop your items off or you may also make a cash donation.

Thanksgiving eve services will be held on Nov. 23 at Kongsvinger with fellowship to follow.

From Good Shepherd Lutheran Church: The first ever business meeting of the church will be held on Nov. 13 following worship services. A pot luck dinner will follow the meeting. New member Sunday is Nov. 20. Following services there will a forum on the Augustana district of the LCMC. Due to preparations for children's Sunday school program this will be the last forum or Bible study until January. There will also be services at Good Shepherd on Nov. 23 at 7 p.m.

World Mission Mart will be held at Federated Church in Morris on Nov. 19 beginning at 9 a.m.

Donnelly Fire Department turkey bingo will be held on Nov. 9 at the town hall beginning at 7 p.m.

Due to the retirement of Gail Kloos, the Donnelly branch of the United Farmers and Merchants State Bank will be closed until further notice.

Fred Kill of Morris passed away on Oct. 31. Among the family members who survive him are a nephew Ray (Betty) Kill and their family of Donnelly.

Adolph Long of Morris, formerly of the Donnelly area, passed away on Nov. 5. Lowell and Sandy Dunn and I attended his visitation at the Pedersen Funeral Home on Nov. 8.

Alvin Rathke of Hoffman passed away on Nov. 9; among the family members that survive him is his son Warren (Delores) Rathke and their family.

Kaden John Wilkinson was born on Sept. 13 to Jerad and MaryBeth Wilkinson. Grandparents are Rob and Kathy Kopel of Donnelly and John and Lorna Wilkinson.

Congratulations to the Chokio-Alberta junior high knowledge bowl team that tied for first at a meet in Fergus Falls recently. Brooke Gillespie is a member of that team.

The Stevens County Genealogical Society had their last meeting of the year on Nov. 3. We decided to buy and donate the book, Life in the U.S. Military, by Don Koffman, to the Morris Public Library in memory of Fred Kill. His wife, Helen is our vice-president.

Jack Fuchs and I attended the memorial service for Milt Corey on Nov. 4.

Andy Brevig and I attended the Stevens County Republican party meeting on Nov. 7. The next meeting is scheduled for Dec. 5. It was decided that we would hold our precinct caucuses at the Legion next year.

I am having a yard sale today (Saturday) beginning at 9 a.m. at my home in Morris, 11 East 9th Street (in back of the Morris Co-op feed shed).
