St. Mary's Samplings

Kindergarten: Kinder kids worked with the Sh sound this week. We also celebrated three birthdays; Eli's, Austin's and Sierra's. Sierra Lopez also had her Wonderful Week and we had a wonderful time. We got to spend a morning at Head Start where her mom works. That was fun.

Grade 1: First grade finished up their math unit on measurement. We started talking about the sun, moon, stars and planets in science. We celebrated Travis Kirwin's birthday on Tuesday and Kaedan Fischer's birthday on Wednesday. We have been busy getting ready for our Spring Concert!

Grade 2: The second graders have enjoyed working with comparative terms like half, double, twice, and equal shares in multiplication and division. It was fun for the class to understand the relationship between repeated addition and repeated subtraction to solve simple math problems. They all enjoyed the Senior Class Alumni Day, Mass, and kick-ball game.

Grade 3: The third graders did some work with grid maps, located and identified points on a coordinate map, and completed plane figures on a coordinate grid by naming missing ordered pairs. They also continued to work on their multiplication and division. The class enjoyed the Elementary Fitness Fun Day in PE. Thanks to the PE teachers for all they did to plan the event!

Grade 4: We enjoyed having the seniors visit us on Wednesday. On Thursday we went on a field trip to SWELL. Randee Hokanson taught us about ducks and pond life. The outdoor classroom is a great way to learn about nature. In math class we are beginning our last unit on decimals.

Grade 5: The fifth graders are reading a story about the architect Maya Lin who designed both the Vietnam Memorial Wall and the Civil Rights Movement Memorial. It raised a lot of good discussion about what went on during these times. We are continuing to work on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fraction in math class.

Grade 6: We are busy creating a PowerPoint presentation about the person we read about in our biographies. We also began creating a cross made of burnt matches. In math we are adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing.
