Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.

I am sorry about the recent mistakes. I plan on implementing some changes that will hopefully eliminate some of them.

At the end of last week it had dried out and warmed up enough for many area farmers to start planting. However it rained all day Sunday, bringing everything to a halt. I did see one field of grain up already.

In St. John's/Kongsvinger Parish news: there will be joint services at Kongsvinger on May 15 at 11 a.m. with the Sunday school kids singing. It will also be adopted grandparents day with an award ceremony for the Sunday school kids during services.

May 22 is baccalaureate sun in the parish. There will a brunch at 10 a.m. to recognize our graduates. If you have a graduate and have not notified the parish office please do a.s.a.p.

News from Good Shepherd Lutheran Church: May 15 is new member Sunday. If you would like to join as a regular or associate member please call 392-5548.

Rev. Michael Hanson of Glenwood will be installed as pastor of Good Shepherd on May 22 during the 9 a.m. service. A pot luck dinner will follow.

There will be a benefit for Clay and Melanie Van Horn on May 21 at the community center and park in Alberta. They lost their possessions in a house fire in December. Dinner will be from 11 a.m. - 3p.m. with a free will offering. There will also be a silent auction, petting zoo, and pony rides.

There will be an open house bridal shower today (Saturday) in honor of Becky Smith and Bryan Taffe from 10 a.m. to noon at Faith Lutheran Church, Morris.

New Wine performances continue today (Saturday) and tomorrow at First Lutheran Church of Morris.

There will a farewell dinner/program for Rev. Ali Boomershine on May 22 following the 10:45 a.m. services at First Lutheran Church.

The Stevens County Genealogical Society had their meeting on May 5 at the Morris Public Library. Afterwards we enjoyed some cake in honor of the library's 125th anniversary. The next meeting will be on Sept. 1.

Elaine Harstad and I attended the WordAlone meeting in Benson on May 7. The next meeting will be on June 4 at Kongsvinger Church of Donnelly. That afternoon, we attended the funeral for Thelma Leegard at Kongsvinger. In between the two events I attended the exotic animal auction in Benson, visited my cousin Bev Hurlbut in Morris and the graduation open house for Mitchell Heinrich also in Morris,

The Donnelly Community Club had a lengthy meeting on May 9 as plans continue for the 2011 threshing Bee and other events. It was decided to raise the price of admission by a dollar both in advance and at the gate. Anyone with ideas for the Bee and/or other events is encouraged to talk to one of the officers. The next meeting will be on June 13.

Congratulations to the following:

-The Wheaton/Herman-Norcross Junior Olympic 16U volleyball team that took gold at the Minnewaska tournament. Samantha Larson is a member of that team. Samantha also made the honor roll at Herman-Norcross. Her sister Hannah was a member of a flute trio that won superior at the district music contest in Morris recently

-Tara Flaten was named to the honor roll at Hancock High School.

-The Stampede 4-H club won the "Snickers" award at the Share the Fun event on April 2. There are several Donnelly area 4-Hers who are members of that club.

The Morris Area boys track team won their own invitational on April 19 and the Marv Meyer invitational on April 12. Tyler Rouske won the 100 meter dash at the Tiger Invitational and 200 meter dash at the Meyer and Tiger invitational. The Tigers were runners-up in the Montevideo and Little Crow invitational. Tyler was a member of the 4x 200 relay team that took first place. They also won the true team track section meet and will be competing in the state tournament.

-John Huebner took 2nd place in the NCAA pick 'em contest at Morris Area High School.

-Dylan Recker who won the local contest for the young American creative patriotic arts award scholarship contest.

-Katie Giese was one of the winners in the Americanism contest and the speech contest at St. Mary's school.

The Old # 1 bowling team recently won the Hi-Lo league championship. Members of that team include Joan Fults, Deanna Heuer; Carol Kummrow, and Judy Hakfer.

-Sydney Beyer was recently selected to be Ambassador of the Year for the BPA National Torch Awards.

-Kody Armstrong was confirmed on May 1 and for made the honor roll at the West Central Area School.

-The Morris baseball team won their tournament on April 30. Alex Erickson is a member of that team.

-The Morris softball team finished as runner-up in their tournament., Beth Holland and Haley Henrichs are members of that team.

-Deb Root has started her new job as bookkeeper/ receptionist at New Horizons Ag Services in Chokio.

-Ray Kill won the 9 pin no tap tournament at Crystal Lanes in Morris.

-Janice Halverson, Anna Weispfenning and boys and Beth Larson spent some time over the weekend visiting family and friends in the area.

Margret Larson, Marge Kleinhans and Jane Harstad were among those who were honored as part of a recognition dinner at the University of Minnesota, Morris recently.
