Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news. I want to wish my Mom a happy Mother's Day up in heaven.

Temperatures have continued to remain on the cool side during the past week and there was some snow on the ground Sunday morning. A few fields in the area have been worked and planted but most farmers are waiting for it to warm up and dry out more,

Corrections: Tom Cress of Isle passed away on March 12. Among his survivors is his wife LaVonne (Waller) and her family.

Lee Eystad had his first communion on April 21. His parents are Jacob and Mindy, grandparents are Lee (Duke) and Donna Eystad, and Bonnie Haynes, great grandmother is Irene Strand, and step grandfather is Don Bahr.

Parish news from St. John's/Kongsvinger: There will be joint services at Kongsvinger on May 15 at 11 a.m. with the Sunday school kids singing. It will also be adopted grandparents day with an award ceremony for the Sunday school kids during services.

The May newsletter is out. It contains the summer worship schedule. Extra copies are available in the narthex of both churches.

May 15 is new member Sunday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. If you would like to join as a regular or associate member please call 392-5548.

The May mission of the month is LCMC -Ethiopia.

There will be a spaghetti supper at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cyrus on May 13 at 5:30 p.m. followed by a concert by "Dakota Road" at 7 p.m. and dessert following the concert.

Tickets are now on sale for the "New Wine" show at First Lutheran Church of Morris on May 8, 11, 14, and 15. Call 589-3242 for more information.

The following events are taking place today (Saturday):

WordAlone Ministries will meet at Trinity Lutheran in Benson, 700 Nevada Avenue. Coffee will be served at 9:30 a.m. with the program at 10 a.m. The speaker will be Anne Gran from Alexandria about her recent trips to Ethiopia.

There will be an open house wedding shower for Gerald and Erica Loher III, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Kongsvinger Parish Hall, rural Donnelly. All are welcome. His parents are Jerry Jr. and Jody Loher; grandparents are Gerald Loher Sr. and Bertha Larson.

There will be an open house for Mitchell Heinrich in honor of his graduation from the "School of Tomorrow" (home school) from 2- 5 p.m. at the Morris Senior Center. His parents are Scott and Beth, grandmother is Lillian Heinrich.

The Donnelly Community Club will meet on May 9 at 7 p.m. at the town hall.

Becky Smith and Bryan Taffe are engaged to be married on July 23, at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris. There will be a bridal shower for them on May 14 at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris from 10 a.m -noon.

On April 30, I attended the genealogy workshop at the Stevens County museum, visited some friends at the West Wind Village, the open house at the Christus House and finally managed to get in on the tail end of the Stevens Community Humane Society meeting at the Common Cup. En route home I stopped to visit Denny Anderson at his home in Donnelly.

The Lutheran Campus Ministry students who were on the spring break mission trip last month gave a very good presentation about the trip. It was obvious that the trip made a lasting impression on all of them.

Last week I made one of my frequent stops into McCollar Jewelry to visit with Wally. He said Mary Dripps had been by to see him recently and is feeling better now. She told him that there will be a committal service for her brother "Buzzy" at Calvary Cemetery in Morris later this year.

Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended services at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on May 1. That afternoon, I attended the Mitch Kleindl memorial archery shoot at Niemackl Lake Park.

Dorothy Jordheim was among those who attended the sweethearts luncheon at St. John's on May 1.

Evelyn Underwood and I attended the worship services at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris with Dean Mthethwa from South Africa as the guest speaker.

Thelma Leegard of Hoffman formerly of Donnelly passed away on May 5. Her funeral will be held today at 4 p.m. at Kongsvinger Lutheran Church.
