St. Mary's Samplings

Kindergarten: We worked with the letter W this week and thought we should say goodbye to winter and welcome to spring. We did an art project with Father Peter that was really cool! This was Madison Staples Wonderful Week so we celebrated with her and we also celebrated two birthdays; Riley's on the 6th and Madison's on the 8th.

Grade 1: First grade worked more with fractions in math. We also started on time with analog clocks and digital clocks. We worked on time to the hour and half hour. In science we are starting a new unit about weather. We had a great art lesson about primary, secondary, and complimentary colors from our UMM Tutor.

Grade 2: The second graders are working with counting numbers to 1000, place value, expanded numbers, and estimating quantities in math. In Science they are discussing and looking at rocks and minerals. They continue to learn more of the lower case letters in cursive.

Grade 3: We are discussing American Heritage in Social Studies. In math we are continuing their work with equivalent fractions by multiplying and dividing. We also started to add fractions with like and unlike denominators.

Grade 4: We have had a busy week. We enjoyed going to the sixth grade Science Fair presentations on Monday. On Tuesday Father Peter set up his school art project. We each painted one section of stretched canvas. The parts will all be attached and framed, showing a picture of Mary, our school's namesake.

Grade 5: We have been hard at work in math learning how to divide larger numbers and numbers with decimals. We started a unit in English working with action verbs. We also finished the novel Holes. The kids loved that they could start to piece together the story within the story and how they relate to one another at the end.

Grade 6: We presented Science Fair projects on Monday. Each student told the purpose of his/her project, hypothesis, procedure followed, displayed data and results, and the conclusion they can to. During math we are converting measurements using both the metric and customary system.
