Student Recitals

On Sunday, April 3, in HFA 160 Mary Keller will present her senior recital at 2:30 p.m. and Elizabeth Halaas will perform her senior voice recital at 5 p.m.

Public Policy Guest Speaker

Coal and climate policy expert Barbara Freese will speak on Monday, April 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the Cow Palace, Imholte Hall room 109. Freese has worked extensively on coal and climate policy at the state and federal levels. From 1986 until 1999, she served as assistant attorney general for the state of Minnesota and focused on implementing air quality laws. Her address, "Power Struggle: Slowing Global Warming and Building Clean Energy in a Shifting Political Landscape," is free and open to the public. Freese's appearance is sponsored by UMM's environmental studies program.

33rd Annual Jazz Fest - Opening Night

The 33rd annual Jazz Fest takes place Thursday through Saturday, April 7-9, on the Morris campus. Jazz fans can enjoy a concert performed by the Morris jazz ensembles and guest artists each evening at 7:30 p.m. in Edson Auditorium. The West Central All Star Jazz Band opens the concert on Friday night, and on Saturday night the festivities begin with the Alumni Jazz Band. This year's visiting musicians are New York-based guest artists Eric Alexander on saxophone and bassist Todd Coolman; and Twin Cities clinicians Jay Epstein, drummer, and trumpeter Adam Rossmiller. Festival organizer Joe Carucci has chosen musical selections by Duke Ellington, Thad Jones, Sammy Nestico, Frankie Lane, Oscar Pettiford, Bob Mintzer, and more. The second night, Friday, April 8, opens with the West Central All Star Jazz Band at 7:30 p.m. in Edson Auditorium.

Jazz Fest - Closing Night

The Alumni Jazz Band opens the final performance of the 33rd annual Jazz Fest on Saturday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Edson Auditorium.

Student Recitals

On Sunday, April 10, in HFA 160, Samantha Chevalier gives her senior voice recital at 2:30 p.m., and Molly Kvam performs her senior piano recital at 5 p.m. No admission charge.

Prairie Yard and Garden

On Thursday, April 7, PY&G tackles The Fall Garden. All good things must come to an end, and putting our garden to bed for the winter is one of the tasks all gardeners must do to prepare for the next growing season. Randee Hokanson, Stevens County Master Gardener, discusses with Sue Gooch things to consider when preparing your perennials for a long winter's nap. The program airs Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. with rebroadcasts Mondays at 1 p.m. and Saturdays at 4:30 p.m.
