Back in November I wrote about a new organization at the high school. The name of the organization is the Business Professionals of America (BPA). BPA is the leading Career Technical Student Organization (CTSO) for students pursuing careers in business management, office administration, information technology, and other related career fields. BPA has more than 51,000 members in over 2,300 chapters in 23 states. BPA is a "co-curricular" organization that supports business and information technology educators by offering curriculum based on national standards.
Thirty-three Morris Area students recently competed at the Minnesota Business Professionals of America State Leadership Conference in Minneapolis (March 10-12). State competition was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel & Conference Center. Over a thousand students from all over the state were at the competition. Of the 18 qualifiers, eight Morris students have accepted the invitation to compete and earn awards at the National Leadership Conference in Washington D.C. from May 4-8. BPA's Torch Awards Program frames and guides a BPA member's leadership and service to their chapter and community. Students complete activities in the seven Torch categories - Leadership; Service; Cooperation; Knowledge; Friendship; Love, Hope, Faith; and Patriotism. Congratulations to those who competed and good luck to those who will be competing in Washington, D.C.
Torch Award Winners (All qualified for nationals): Sydney Beyer - attending nationals; Kaylee Brandt; Micah Fehr; Yasha Hoffman - attending nationals; Megan Johnson - attending nationals; Steve Jungst - attending nationals; Laura Kuhn; Monserrat Mendez - attending nationals; Marlee Morton; Haley Rohloff; Sami Searle; Kendra Sperr - attending nationals; Kenzie VanBatavia; MacKenzie Weatherly; and Ashley Zidarich.
