The kindergarten through second grade students have started a new science unit, Comparing and Measuring. This unit gives students a variety of experiences in comparing, matching and measuring. Throughout the unit, students will observe similarities and differences among objects and match and measure lengths, heights, and distances. Over the 16 lessons the students will be using different objects and tools to measure objects. Through these experiences, the students should develop an awareness and appreciation of measuring and the part it plays in their daily lives.
Grade 5 and 6 News:
The fifth and sixth grade students are starting their levers and pulleys unit. The students will be learning about the simple machines that we often take for granted every day. The class will be learning about the three classes of simple machines and how those machines, even though don't have steam puffing from them or wheels whirling, provide the user with advantage. The class will be using the Scientific Thinking Process to solve problems that arise during the experiments.
