Hancock FFA tours John Morrell

The Hancock FFA recently went on a winter trip, touring the John Morrell Hog plant. The students found the tour was very fun, and they learned a lot about the process of how pork products are made. The guides took the students around the plant, showing them as much as they could. Due to the size of the plant it was not possible to see it all. The group learned that 18,300 hogs are harvested a day at John Morrell with the work done by approximately 3,500 workers. Among those workers 67 different languages are spoken.

The group also got to see things such as how the pigs were killed, how the bacon is made, and how hams are cured.

One really interesting thing during the tour was how hot dogs are made. At the plant, 86 miles of hot dogs are made each day.
