Hokanson promoted to Brigadier General
Daniel R. Hokanson, grandson of Walter Hokanson of Morris, and the son of Bob and Diann (Kieffer) Hokanson formerly of Morris, was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General during a ceremony at Peterson Air Force Base on Jan. 12.
Brigadier General Hokanson is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, and the National Security Fellowship Program at Harvard University. He has commanded at the platoon, company, battalion and brigade combat team levels, and recently completed a 2009 and 2010 deployment to Iraq as the Commander of the 41st Brigade Combat Team. His other combat deployments include Operation "Just Cause" and Operation "Enduring Freedom."
Brigadier General Hokanson has been awarded the Legion of Merit, Soldiers Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Master Army Aviator Badge, Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Valley Forge Cross for Heroism, Red Cross Team Rescue of the Year Award, and multiple Sikorsky Lifesaving Awards. He is also a command pilot with over 2,600 hours in five different Army aircraft, a former member of the U.S. World Helicopter Team, and has commanded nearly one hundred air rescue and fire fighting missions.
Brigadier General Hokanson is assigned to NORAD and USNORTHCOM in Colorado.
