Welcome to another edition of the Donnelly news.

One of my New Year's resolutions is do a better job of making sure I get the names right.

After a week of very cold temperatures and more stormy weather, temperatures moderated some this week. I talked to a friend in New Mexico last week and he said it was 70 degrees there. I offered to trade places with him but he declined my offer.

In St. John's/ Kongsvinger parish News: There will be a joint service of Holy Communion on Jan. 30 at St. John's at 11 a.m. with the Sunday school kids singing. Sunday school will be at 9:45 a.m. at St John's.

The KLCW is collecting items for health kits for in kind offerings at the Glacial Ridge Spring Gathering and the Southwest Minnesota Synod Women's meeting this spring. For a list of items needed, please contact the parish office or call 677-2784. There is collection box in the parish hall. Financial donations are also being accepted.

The February mission project at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is support for the food shelf. A portion of the monthly offerings will be given to them. I stopped at the church site on Jan. 22 to see the progress being made. They are working on electrical, plumbing, and sheet rocking the fellowship hall.

On Jan. 30 there will be a Friendship Sunday and open house at Zion Lutheran Church, 315 South Columbia, Morris. The 9:30 a.m. service will be followed by fellowship.

WordAlone Ministries will have their annual meeting at 10 a.m. on Feb. 5 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck. The meeting will be followed by a potluck dinner.

The Donnelly city council meetings are now being taped and airing on Channel 6 on the Runestone cable system. Times are posted on channel 6 and in the future at the Post Office. If anyone has any questions or concerns they would like the city council to address they may drop them in the slot at the town hall where you pay your water bill. The city council meetings are open to the public. Their next meeting is on Feb. 7 at 7 p.m.

The Donnelly Co-op will have a winter crop meeting on Feb. 1 at the Donnelly Hall. For more details, call the Co-op at 320-246-3555.

The Red Hatters will meet at Place To Be on Feb. 7 at 1 pm. Bring a valentine and a small chocolate.

The Rendsville 4-H club will meet on Feb. 7 at the fire hall 7 p.m.

The bookmobile will be in Donnelly on Feb. 7 and 21 from 3:30-3:45 p.m.

Two former Donnelly area residents, Carol Brevig of Morris and Rudy Gulbrandson of Alaska passed away on Jan. 24. Funerals for both will be held today (Saturday).

Burton Strand of Donnelly passed away on Jan. 26. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 31 at 11 a.m. at Kongsvinger Church.

Congratulations to the Herman-Norcross FFA Ag Sales team that finished 6th in an Ag day competition in Crookston on Dec. 3. Samantha Larson is a member of that team.

Congratulations to the West Central Area Little Knights wrestling team on placing second at the Minnewaska tournament. Keaton Long is a member of that team. His parents are Clyde and Brenda Long.

Congratulations to the following who were recently installed as officers of the sons of Norway: Andy Brevig (marshal), and Bernice Erdahl (trustee).

Congratulations to Ashley Mecklenburg who was recently awarded an Administrative Assistant scholarship and the Jim Michaelson BPA Memorial Scholarship and to Amy Searle who received the Eagle's 3063 scholarship at Alexandria Technical College.

Congratulations to Carrie and Tyler Roske who were among the Morris Area High School students recently chosen to have their art work displayed at the Common Cup in Morris.

On Jan. 22, I attended the indoor car sale at Heartland Chevrolet. As usual the food was very good.

Andy Brevig and I attended the annual meeting at Kongsvinger on Jan. 23 and the Thrivent chapter meeting following.

Karen Long, Dianne Amundson and I visited Bev Hurlbut at Legacy Living this week.

On Jan. 27, I attended the Minnesota Twins caravan stop at the Morris Area Elementary School. Later that day, I attended the lunch and lecture program at the Morris Senior Center presented by Big Stone Therapy and Prairie Ridge Hospital. En route home I stopped by the home of my aunt Pearl to extend early birthday greetings.
