Sunny mild weather returned this week, enabling most area farmers to finish picking corn.

In parish news from St. John's/Kongsvinger: Confirmation will be held on Nov. 7 at Kongsvinger. Our confirmands this year are Mark Dunn (Lowell and Sandy), Bryce Jergenson (Rob and Peg) and Brandon Pry (Dave and Cora).

There will be a reception for the confirmands following services in the church basement.

A dinner in honor of Mark Dunn's confirmation will be held on Nov. 7 following services at the Kongsvinger parish hall.

St. John's beef supper will be held at the parish hall on Nov. 9 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Advance tickets may be purchased at the parish office.

Parish Bible study will be held on Nov. 10, 17, Dec 1 and 9. Studies will be at St. John's from 10:30 -11:30 a.m. and Kongsvinger from 7-8 p.m.

Lefse making day will be Nov. 13 beginning at 9 a.m. at Kongsvinger. If you can help please bring 10 pounds of russet potatoes peeled but not cooked. RSVP to Elaine Harstad at 677-2784 by Nov. 10.

WordAlone Ministry will meet today (Saturday) at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck. Coffee will be served at 9:30 a.m. with the program at 10 a.m.

St. Luke's West will start meeting at the Kensington Community Center beginning Nov. 7 at 8:30 a.m.

The Haining family of Fergus Falls will be in concert at the United Methodist Church in Herman on Nov. 14 at 2:30 p.m.

The annual Harvest Supper will be served at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris on Nov. 10 from 4:30 -7 p.m.

An open house baby shower for Wyatt Hagen, son of Jeff and Kelsey Hagen, grandson of Lynn and Sheila Schulz, will be held today (Saturday) from 2-4 p.m. at Zion Church in Hoffman.

Learning Unlimited will meet on Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. at the Morris Public Library.

The Donnelly Community Club will meet on Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Donnelly Hall. Please note the change of day.

The Post Office will be closed on Nov. 11 due to the Veterans Day holiday.

The Donnelly Fire Department will hold turkey bingo on Nov 19.

Former Donnelly area resident Millie LeSage passed away on Nov. 4. Funeral arrangements were pending at the time of this column.

Bradey Harrison Lemme was born Oct. 8 in Brookings, S.D. to Carl and Melissa Lemme. Grandparents are Barbara and Lowell Simpson of Chokio, and Dr. Gary Lemme and Dr. Terry Lemme of Brookings, S.D. Great-grandparents are Leona and Paul Lemme of Necedah, Wis. and Great-grandma Monica Tielke of Yankton, S.D.

David Schmidgall of Morris passed away on Oct. 26. Among the family who survive him are a brother-in-law Carter (Amanda) Feuchtenberger of Donnelly.

Congratulations to the Morris Area high school football team on winning the conference championship. Justin Stallman, Tom Holland and Pat Uhpoff are members of that team.

Congratulations to Tom Holland on his confirmation at First Lutheran Church of Morris.

The Morris FFA chapter won several awards at the national and regional level. The AG issues team earned bronze status at the national FFA convention. Kaitlin Van Horn is a member of that team. The chapter itself received a 2 star award at the convention. Sami Searle, Natalie Johnston and Kendra Sperr are officers in the chapter. The dairy food team placed third at the regional contest on Oct. 8. Team members include Melanie Van Horn and MaKenzie Smith, who finished 4th individually. The horse elevation team finished 2nd. Team member Sami Searle finished 5th individually. The soils judging team finished 2nd. Cody Eystad placed 8th individually. The nursery landscaping team placed 3rd. Beth Holland placed 6th individually.

Election results for the Donnelly city council have Rose Athey and Zach Eystad winning. Eystad won by two votes showing again that every vote counts.

Congratulations also go out to Jeanne Ennen who is the new county commissioner from District 2.

On Oct. 29, I attended visitation for Jim Lesmeister. Following that, I enjoyed the concert by Todd Green at the Morris Area Elementary school.

On Oct. 30, Pearl A. Anderson and I attended the birthday parties for Clarence Giese and Jerry Schmidt. Since Clarence never graduated from high school, his family surprised him with a diploma and a "graduation ceremony" earlier in the day.

I attended the dedication for the new Habitat for Humanity home in Morris on Oct. 30.

Jim and Lou Eystad attended the Sunday school adopted grandparents event at Kongsvinger on Oct. 31.

In the afternoon, Pearl A. Anderson and I attended the Halloween party at the Donnelly hall. There were many great costumes.

After the party I visited with Denny Anderson at his home.

Carolyn Smith and I attended the funeral for Joyce Dalager in Morris on Nov. 1. Later I visited my cousin Bev Hurlbut at Legacy Living.

Andy Brevig and I attended the confirmation students' statement of faith presentations on Nov. 3 at the Kongsvinger parish hall.
