Wailin' Jennys

Wailin' Jennys Extra

The Jennys will conduct a master class with the University of Minnesota, Morris choir and Morris Area Public High School vocal students on the art of bluegrass singing on Saturday, Oct. 23, from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. in the HFA Recital Hall. The class is free and open to the public.

Senior Student Voice Recitals

On Sunday, Oct. 24, Don Hanson will perform at 2:30 p.m. and Crystal Biljan will sing at 5 p.m. in the HFA Recital Hall. No admission.

Festival of Spanish Language Cinema

Los abrazos rotos/"Broken Embraces" will be screened on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. in the Morris Theatre at 12 East Sixth Street. Featuring Penélope Cruz. Rated R. 127 minutes.

Morris Community Meal

Morris Community Meal is offering free, freshly prepared meals on the last Monday of each month. Sponsored this month by Morris Healthy Eating, an all-local foods meal will be served on Monday, Oct. 25, from 5:30 until 7 p.m. in the Morris Senior Community Center located at 603 Oregon Avenue.

Asking the Big Questions Discussion Series

The monthly Asking the Big Questions campus/community discussion series, sponsored by the Briggs Library, will explore faith and spirituality during the 2010-11 academic year. The next gathering is on Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. in the library's McGinnis Room on the Morris campus. This month's topic will be "What is Wicca?" Carol Ford, will facilitate the conversation that explores the earth-based religion.

Halloween in the Halls

On Thursday, Oct. 28, UMM's Office of Residential Life is sponsoring the first annual Halloween in the Halls! Bring your kids for a safe Trick-or-Treating experience in UMM's residence halls. Students will pass out candy and greet children and their families in a family-friendly celebration. Come to the main lounge of any of UMM's residence halls between 5:30 and 8:00 p.m., and students will be on hand to guide you through the halls. Questions? Contact Michelle at 320-589-6981. Soup & Substance Discussion

The monthly Soup & Substance discussion will be held on Thursday, Oct. 28, at 6 p.m. in the Student Center's Prairie Lounge. The October gathering will address art funding, an important current issue in Minnesota.

Legislative Candidate Forum

The Democratic and Republican candidates for the State House and the State Senate will hold a debate on Thursday, Oct. 28, at 7:30 p.m. in Imholte Hall 109.

Briggs Library Associates Annual Book Sale

The 2010 Briggs Library Associates annual book sale will be held on Thursday, Oct. 28, from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 29, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Student Center's Oyate Hall.

Rachel Busko and Ilyssa Ryan will perform on Sunday, Oct. 31, at 2:30 p.m. in the Humanities Fine Arts (HFA) Recital Hall. No admission charge.
