The weather has been cooler in the last week than it has been in previous weeks, however it was still mostly sunny and dry When I talked to my neighbors on Saturday they said the corn was running about 16-17 percent so they did not need to do much drying.

In news from the St. John's/Kongsvinger parish: There will be joint services at Kongsvinger on Oct. 31 at 11 a.m. with the Sunday school kids singing again. It will be followed by a light lunch and at about 12:30 p.m. Wayne Grunklee of Thrivent will give a presentation about the proposed endowment fund that is being established for both churches. The endowment fund will be voted on at each congregation's annual meeting.

Presentation of faith statements by members of the confirmation class will be held on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. at St. John's. Confirmation will be held on Nov. 7.

Anyone interested in signing up for New Wine should meet at First Lutheran on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.

An open house and dance for Lloyd and Jan Anderson's 40th wedding anniversary will be held from 6-10 p.m. today (Saturday) at the Eagles Club in Morris.

Due to the closing of Sax's Café the Red Hatters will now meet at Place To Be in Donnelly on Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. They will have a pizza party and members are asked to bring a favorite holiday recipe.

The Stevens County Genealogical Society will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 4 at the Morris Public Library.

There will be an open house 80th birthday party for Jerry Schmidt at the Morris American Legion in Morris from 1-5 p.m. on Oct. 30. He is Gail Kloos' father.

Congratulations to the following who were recently elected officers of the Stevens County 4-H Leaders Council: Cammi Aanerud (fair board representative), Natalie Johnston (treasurer), Sami Searle (president) and Brad Searle as the adult fair board representative.

Congratulations to Rebekah Aanerud who was recently elected president of the Stampede 4-H club.

Congratulation to Sarah Burke (Pat and Carol) and Ashley Dohlen (Gerald and Sharon) who recently graduated from the University of Minnesota, Duluth medical school.

Congratulations to MaKenzie Smith on winning all conference honors at the West Central Conference cross country meet on Oct. 19.

Congratulations to Hannah Larson who was one of the homecoming queen candidates at the Herman-Norcorss High School.

Sally Anderson of Appleton passed away on Oct. 18. Her daughter Nora Hanson (Doug Rhoads) of Donnelly is among her survivors.

Steve Fults and I attended the Stevens County Republican party meeting at Detoy's on Oct. 14 and candidates forum that followed at the Morris American Legion.

On Oct. 16 Pearl A. Anderson and I attended Glen Werk's 80th birthday party. Earlier in the day, I stopped in to the West Wind Village to wish Gene and Katie Lesmeister a happy 70th wedding anniversary.

On Oct. 17 Andy Brevig and I attended the prayer chain breakfast at Kongsvinger Church and later the lutefisk supper at Nora Lutheran of rural Kensington.

Jen Fults and I attended the Morris Area school board meeting in Donnelly on Oct. 18. Superintendent Scott Monson announced that there would be an informational meeting regarding the proposed levy on Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. in the Morris Area Elementary School concert hall.

Jim and Lou Eystad became associate members of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Oct 17. The church continues to meet weekly at 9 a.m. in the Cougar Room in the Prairie Inn in Morris.

Jim and Lou Eystad were among those who helped out at the Arc bazaar on Oct. 20. Later in the afternoon, Mark and Pat Smith and I attended the retirement party for Dennis Johnson at the West Central Research and Outreach Center.

Jerry and Joan Kopacek accompanied VFW Auxiliary President Helen Kill to the Fergus Falls Veteran's Home to greet the National VFW Auxiliary President, Cortina Barnes as she toured our State.

This is school bus safety week and a time to acknowledge the Donnelly school bus drivers, Shirley Kill and Sharon Carlson and the head of the bus service Deann Recker.

October is also fire prevention month so we salute the members of the Donnelly Fire Department and Rescue Squad for their dedication and hard work in protecting our lives and property.
