Stevens County Fair next week

It is fair time in Stevens County. Starting on Wednesday, Aug. 11, Stevens County residents will be celebrating the 137th annual fair. Throughout the next five days, a full schedule of events will be taking place at the fairgrounds in Morris.

Wednesday is Entry Day for Open Class, 4-H and Homemakers. The Open Beef Show will also be held that day starting at noon. The early Homemakers entry time is from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and open class entry is from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. 4-H Clubs will be entering and being judged on their projects on Tuesday.

The annual Fair Supper will begin at 5:30 p.m. and is free with the purchase of a fair button for $6. During the supper there will be a drawing for a trip to Disneyworld and the Kiwanis Talent Show will be held. Sonny Bartell will be performing at the Bandshell and the All American Lumberjack Show will be held on the fairgrounds.

Thursday is entry and judging day for Homemakers and Open Class. These buildings will be closed until judging and displaying is complete. It is also entry day for 4-H Livestock projects. The 4-H Food Stand and Commercial food booths will open at 10 a.m. The 4-H Dairy, Goat and Sheep shows will be held on Thursday. That night is wrist band night at the carnival. Several free shows will be located throughout the fairgrounds on various stages. Fireworks will begin at 10 p.m.

The 4-H Swine show starts out Friday at the fair at 8 a.m. followed by the Beef Show at 1 p.m. The 4-H Rabbit Show will begin at 4 p.m. and Poultry Show at 5:30 p.m. Several entertainers will be around the fair grounds including the Bruce Kid Davie, Brodini Magic Show, and Kelsey Rae. The Enduro race will be in the grandstand starting at 6:30 p.m.

On Saturday the 4-H Round Robin Showmanship will begin at 9 a.m. and the 4-H Livestock Auction at 1 p.m. Many entertainers can be found around the grounds and at night a SuperCross - ATV Mud Bog Run will take place in the grandstand.

Sunday, the final day of the fair, will feature a Community Church Service at 11:15 a.m. Exhibits will open at 12:30 p.m. The Sherwin Linton Band will be added to the fair entertainment at 2, 4 and 6 p.m. The evening will end with the Bank of the West Demo Derby starting at 7 p.m.

It promises to be a fun and entertaining fair for all ages. Parking is free, there is no charge to attend and there will be lots to see and do at the fair. Just remember it is "Free again in 2010" at the Stevens County Fair.
