Fans and air conditioning have been given a good work out in the past week as we have had some hot and muggy weather. Corn and wheat continue to look very good while beans are still lagging some.

In news from the St. John's/Kongsvinger parish: On July 11, 18 and 25, services will be at 8:30 a.m. at St. John's and 10:15 a.m. at Kongsvinger.

West Central Lutherans will hold weekly worship services at 9 a.m. Sundays in the Cougar Room at the Prairie Inn in Morris beginning July 11.

There will be a farewell potluck dinner and program for Rev. Todd Mattson at First Lutheran Church of Morris on July 18 at 11:30 a.m.

Group work camps will be in the area from July 17-24. They are in need of ladders and volunteers. For more information call 1-800-492-4805.

The following events will be held today (Saturday):

A benefit supper for Denny Bouressa will be held at the Morris American Legion 5:30-8:30 p.m.

There will be an open house in honor of the golden wedding anniversary of Janice and Milfred Kaehler at the Mark and Karen Janachovsky home (15763 510th Ave.) near Donnelly from 1-6 p.m. Their anniversary was March 19.

The Morris Area High School class of 2000 will have a reunion beginning at 7 p.m. at the Tiger Room of the Prairie Inn. For more information or to RSVP e-mail aliross630

The Donnelly Community Club will meet July 12 at 7 p.m. at the town hall.

A pancake breakfast and silent auction will be held July 18 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hoffman Community Center. Proceeds will help pay medical expenses for Jeff Hagen of Alexandria. Jeff is the son of Sheila and Lynn Schulz of Morris and grandson of Shirley Henrichs. He is partially disabled due to several surgeries and other health problems

The family of Lloyd Brandt is having a card shower for him in honor of his 90th birthday on July 18. Cards may be sent to him at 103 School Street, Box 340, Belgrade, MN 56312

Lucille Miller of Morris passed away on July 7. Among the family members who survive her is her granddaughter Lori (Maynard) Mau and their family of Donnelly.

Doris Driggens of Morris passed away on July 4. Among her survivors is her daughter Cheryl (Gordon) Lea of Donnelly and their family.

Former Donnelly area resident Roy "Sparky" Sperr of Morris passed away on July 4. Pearl A. Anderson and I attended his funeral on July 7 in Herman. Afterwards I visited Selma Bruse in her apartment.

Lily Jayne Zimenova was born June 21, 2010 at Meriter Hospital, Madison, Wis. to Roman Zimen and Janet Zimenova of Marshall, Wis. Grandparents are Merlyn and Angie Schwartz of Donnelly and Janka Zimenova of Zilina, Slovakia.

Congratulations to Rebekah Aanerud for winning reserve champion at the 4-H demonstration day held recently with her demonstration of "How To Make Horse Hair Jewelry."

Fran Cin was elected Madame trustee of the Eagles Auxiliary recently.

Tom and Elaine Mohr were grand marshals of the Hancock 4th of July parade. Tom is a former Donnelly area resident.

Wayne Rohloff was elected king of the Minnewaska Nursing Home.

The class of '55 will have their reunion on July 17 poolside of the Prairie Inn with a mini reunion of the Donnelly classmates on July 16 in Donnelly. For more information, call 589-0127.

The class of '55 had 77 members, about 12 were from Donnelly. Last week I mentioned that my mom was their teacher. Most of the classmates also had Mom's sister Mabel as a teacher. Mable continued teaching in the area until 1953 when she accepted a teaching position in Chandler, Minn., and she continued to teach in that area until retiring in 1980. In 1958 she married Vernon Van Olst of Chandler. He passed away in '68. Anyone wishing to visit with the classmates may do so in Donnelly Friday afternoon, poolside at the Prairie Inn in Morris on Friday evening or after the banquet on Saturday, about 7:30 p.m.

Denny Anderson and I attended the open house at West River Dairy on June 24. That evening, I took in the Kiwanis Talent Show at East Side Park. Holly Geise was one of performers and she placed 2nd. En route home I stopped to visit with Verle Dunn.

On June 26, I attended the open house at the Northern Impressions in Morris.

On June 27 I traveled to Willmar for the Willmar Fest parade. Afterwards I visited Romna Fostervold at her home in rural Willmar.

The Donnelly Threshing Bee Royalty along with members of the Mark Smith family were participants in the Old Settlers Reunion parade in Barrett on June 27. Later, I visited Thelma Leegard in her apartment.

On June 27, I visited with a friend in the Bethany Home in Alexandria before taking in the Viking Land Band Festival. En route home I stopped in Hoffman at the visitation for Harry Westburg. His brother-in-law is a relative.

Emily Varmum was among the members of New Wine who had their homecoming concert at First Lutheran Church on June 30. Tom Holland was a member of the crew.

On July 1, I attended the funeral for Chuck Heinrich in Morris and visitation for Gen Braun. That evening, I took in the women's softball games in Donnelly and afterwards I visited with Jim and Lou Eystad.

Threshing Bee princess Kristina Johnson was a participant in the Hancock Fourth of July parade. After the parade I watched the tractor pull.

Little Miss Princesses Kristina and Carrie Wilts were participants in the Heritage Days parade in Starbuck on July 4 and were also present at the Miss Minnewaska pageant afterwards.

Following the Starbuck festivities, I stopped to visit Darlene Christofferson and Don Rosholt in their homes.

Jerry and Joan Kopacek enjoyed their "Women's Week" at Luther Crest Bible Camp last week. Joan said she loved driving the new four-seater golf cart "taxi." Now they are back helping with the Quilt Auction today (Saturday).
