Donnelly News

The weather continues to be ideal for crops with sunshine, warm temperatures and good rains. The small grains and corn are looking especially good, but the beans could use more sunshine. Farmers are busy spraying and putting up hay.

In news from the St. John's/ Kongsvinger parish: There will joint services at St. John's on June 27 at 8:30 a.m. On July 4 there will be joint services with Holy Communion at Kongsvinger at 10:30 a.m., followed by a flag raising ceremony and a pot luck dinner. Note this is a change from what was announced earlier.

West Central Lutherans invite you to another open worship service at the Hancock Community Center at 10 a.m. on June 27. Weekly services begin on July 11 at 9 a.m. in the Cougar Room at the Prairie Inn of Morris.

There will be an LCMC meeting at the Hoffman Community Center on June 28 at 6:30 p.m., hosted by Rev. Dave Gram. For more information, call 320-762-2684.

The All-State Lutheran choir is currently on tour and will be performing in Ortonville on June 27 and Glenwood on June 28.

There will be women's softball games at Aanerud Field on June 28 at 7 p.m. and July 1 at 7:15 p.m. The Rendsville 4-H will be manning the concession stand.

A quick reminder to members of the Morris High School class of 1955: If you have not returned your reservation letter yet, please do ASAP.

An open house bridal shower for Lori Backman and Craig Eveslage will be held today (Saturday) from 9-11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Chokio.

Irene Erlandson of Morris passed away on June 19. A daughter, Cheryl Beebe of Donnelly, is among the family who survive her.

Byron Holman of Donnelly passed away on June 21. Survivors include his wife Shirley (Anderson) and her family.

Congratulations go out this week to: Jenna Moser for making the dean's list at North Dakota State University and Amanda Varnum for making the dean's list at Minnesota State University-Moorhead.

Congratulations to Becca Holland for winning the presidential award for physical fitness at Morris Area Elementary School and also for winning the One on one contest, being part of the winning team in the three on three contest and placing third in the dribble competition, at the girls' basketball camp held in Morris recently.

Congratulations to Jordan Moser, Islande and Auddy Sperr for winning the Diane Schulz award at MAES. Auddy and Islande are the adopted daughters of Don and Tammy Sperr.

The following band students recently won awards at the solo and ensemble contest: Amber Recker (flute quartet); MaKenzie Smith (sax quartet); Tom Holland (trombone quartet); and Ashley Mecklenburg (bass clarinet trio).

Congratulations to Levin Strand who won or placed in almost all the 5th grade events he participated in at the Herman-Norcross elementary track and field event on May 21.

Jake Long was included in the honor roll at West Central Area High School.

Nicole Gillespie was included in the honor roll at Chokio-Alberta.

After church on June 20, several folks had a chance to visit with Jerry Boerner of New Jersey, who was in the area visiting family and friends.

Kensington had a beautiful day for their Runestone Days parade on June 20. Our Threshing Bee royalty were participants in it along with Bennett Smith and his family. Bennett is running for Minnesota House District 11-A.

After the parade it was off to the tractor pull, where I visited with David and Jullete Jergenson of Cyrus. En route home I took in the ice cream social at Solem Lutheran Church of rural Kensington.

On June 16 I took in the open house at Morris Chiropractic Clinic. Later, I stopped to visit Denny Anderson.

On June 17 I visited Burton Stand and Bill Underwood at the West Wind Village.

About 60 men attended the men's health night at Stevens Community Medical Center on June 22.

On June 23, I attended the visitation for Byron Holman at the Pederson Funeral Home. Earlier in the day, I took in the open house at Total Mortgage Solutions.

Kristi Larson spent some time over the weekend visiting her parents Don and Algene and other family and friends in the area.
