Preview of Hancock July 4 activities

The Hancock Lions have selected a very appropriate theme for the July 4th activities in Hancock - "Hooray for the red, white and blue". Since the flag embodies the spirit that ties our country together, the Lions wanted to make the flag the center point of the celebration. This can be done not just as a theme for the parade but also in all decorations and displays throughout the community over the long weekend.

With the fourth falling on a Sunday this year, the Lions will be holding the majority of activities on July 3. However a few things may carry into other days.

On Friday, July 2 there will be music at both Inn Like Flinn's and Buddies. At Inn Like Flinn Kim Wolf will be providing music from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. At Buddies the band "Joy Ride" will be performing. Also that evening the Benson Chiefs and Morris Eagles will be playing at the Benson field at 7:30 p.m. Ballplayers from Hancock play on both these teams and it is always a fun match-up.

Saturday, July 3 will dawn early for many. While the Hancock firemen are stirring up the pancake batter, the 5K run and walkers will be lining up at Page Lake. The Run/Walk will begin with registration at 7:30 a.m. The Firemen Pancake Feed will begin at 7 a.m. and run until 9:30 a.m. at the Fire Hall. The Little League All-Star game will begin at 10 a.m. and be followed by a Home Run Derby.

Over the noon hour you can picnic in the park by enjoying some of the food being served up by a variety of vendors at or near the Water Tower Park. The Lions Club will also have their popcorn wagon parked there for a fresh treat or if you wish to make a donation for the festivities.

Line up for the Kiddie Parade will start at 12:30 p.m. with the parade starting at 1:00. This will be followed by the main parade set to begin at 1:30 traveling the same route. If you have a parade entry please contact Dennis Schroeder at 392-5989.

Several events will be taking place after the parade. The annual Tractor Pull will begin at 3 p.m. across from Trico. At the Community Center the Lions will be holding Bingo. Buddies will be hosting a volleyball tournament.

The day will end with Inn Like Flinn's annual street dance featuring "Electric Almighty" from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. This will be backdropped by the traditional Fireworks shot off by the firemen at the baseball field.

This is an outline of the events thus far. If anyone has an event to add please contact Joel Flaten of the Hancock Lions or Katie Erdman to place it in the final schedule in the Hancock Record.
