Open house for Hone and Swanson

A reception was held on May 26 for Dale Swanson, center and Matt Hone, left. Superintendent Jerry Martinson, right, presented Swanson with a plaque for his retirement and thanked both teachers for their years at Hancock High School.

Two Hancock teachers were honored during a reception last week on one of their last days at the Hancock School. Dale Swanson and Matt Hone will not be returning to teach in Hancock next year. Swanson is retiring and Hone has taken another position.

Hone will be teaching next year at Carrington, N.D. back in the state where he grew up.

Hone has been teaching Social Studies at Hancock High School since 1999. He grew up in Valley City, N.D. and served in the Army in Germany for three years. In 1993 he left the service and enrolled at NDSU graduating in 1998. He did student teaching for one year before taking the job at Hancock. In the fall of 1999, just after beginning his teaching job in Hancock, he was married. He and his wife, Carleen, and children live in Morris.

Besides teaching social studies, Hone has also served as a coach for football and boys basketball.

Hone wanted to thank the school and community for supporting him. "Thank you for the opportunities provided me to grow as an educator, and thank you to the community for all their support over the years."
