MAHS art students dazzle MSHSL Visual Arts competition

Morris Area arts students had their best showing in the Minnesota State High School League Visual Arts judging since the beginning of this event nine years ago.

MAHS students took home seven Superior awards, six Excellent, and five Merit awards out of 18 artworks. The event was at the Art of the Lakes Gallery in Battle Lake in May.

Students attended workshops in Raku, Clay, Oil Pastel, Calligraphy, Paper cutting, felting, and received higher education information from Minneapolis College of Art & Design and Minnesota State Moorhead.

Award winners are:

•Jackson Henrich with his Excellent award clay work, "Basketball"; Superior award oil clay sculpture, "Kareem"; and Superior award wheel works, "Two in One."

•Dylan Recker with his Superior charcoal/pastel drawing, "Girl in Red."

•Braden Luthi with his Superior award Conte drawing, "White Tree"; and Superior award silkscreen collage, "Top Hat."

•Shadow Olson with her Excellent award Conte drawing, "Horn of Plenty."

•Kelsey Greenwaldt with her Excellent award silkscreen collage, "Goldfish."

•Brittany Prokasky Superior award oil pastel, "Opposites Attract."

•Lynnea Bye with her Excellent award oil clay sculpture, "All Bent Up."

•Hector Lozano with his Superior award pencil drawing, "Boredom at Home."

•Andrew Hutchings with his Excellent award clay sculpture, "Life's Surprises."

•Aryn Parker with her Merit award clay sculpture, "Winter Wolf."

•Maddie Gravning with her Excellent award watercolor painting, "Mountain Shrine."
