For the fourth time in four chances, Morris Area High School will be represented at the Poetry Out Loud state competition.

MAHS student Thomas McPhee became the school's fourth regional champion at the Center for the Arts in Fergus Falls on Feb. 19.

MAHS has been in the Poetry Out Loud competition four years.

The state Poetry Out Loud competition is Monday, March 8, at the Fitzgerald Theatre in St. Paul. The event begins at 9:30 a.m.

"Morris Area has the highest level of success in Poetry Out Loud of any school in the state," said MAHS teacher and POL advisor Dave Johnson.

McPhee and Tim Ostby moved on to the regional competition by finishing in a virtual tie during the local POL competition earlier this month. In the regional, Ostby placed fifth.

"They both did really, really well," Johnson said.

McPhee is MAHS' fourth state POL competitor. Annika Kildegaard finished second in the state contest the first year the school competed in POL. Mary Hu won the state competition in year two and advanced to the national contest. Last year, Alex McIntosh won the regional and placed in the top six in the state event.
