A 21-year-old man is in custody and faces murder charges for the death of an Eagan teenager whose body was found Thursday morning in a ditch northwest of Owatonna.

The Associated Press reports that 21-year-old Ryan Hurd was arrested Friday in west Tulsa. Investigators said that Hurd and Anderson had been involved in a long-term relationship and that Hurd had returned to Tulsa on a bus from Minnesota.

A joint statement released Saturday by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Steele County Sheriff's Office said that authorities believed Anderson's death took place in Steele County. Based on results of the preliminary investigation, authorities added that they were confident that no one else was involved in the homicide.

According to the criminal complaint, Hurd admitted to driving Anderson south of Eagan to a rural area, arguing with her then stabbing her multiple times. Hurd told investigators he left her where he had stabbed her about three miles north of U.S. Highway 14.

He said he then drove Anderson's car back to Minneapolis where he bought a bus ticket to Tulsa.

Anderson's body was discovered early Thursday morning by a passerby in a ditch along 30th Street N.W. in rural Owatonna.

An autopsy on Friday by the Dakota County Coroner concluded that Anderson died of homicidal injuries. The report stated that Anderson had been stabbed 109 times and died from the stab wounds and exposure.

Anderson was a 2008 graduate of the Morris Area High School in Morris. She moved to the Cities to attend the Le Cordon Bleu College, where she was studying to become a pastry chef.

Funeral services for Anderson will be held Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church of Morris.

The Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Steele County Sheriff's Office are continuing the investigation. Anyone with information about Anderson's whereabouts on Wednesday and into the morning on Thursday is urged to contact the Steele County Sheriff's Office at (507) 451-8232.
