Area Weather: Weather has been 'pits' but moisture is recharged

I always try to be the eternal optimist, but this rainy weather the past few days has made even me call this weather the "pits!"

Really, the past few weeks have been terrible weather. An inverted trough across Iowa brought rain early in the week into the midweek. We finally got a bit of a break on Thursday, but some morning fog even made Thursday less than ideal. Along with the fog across the state we were almost 10 degrees cooler than average once again.

Morris received about .60" of rain from Tuesday into Wednesday.

Believe it or not, but most of Central and West Central Minnesota are now above normal for moisture for the year. At one time, most locations were about four or five inches below average.

For the month of October we are actually about three inches above normal. St. Cloud reports 4.24" of rain for the month and the average is 1.50" at this point for the month. For the year 25.13" of rain has fallen with the average of 24.16" at this point.

In 1922 a storm over Minnesota brought 55 mph winds at Collegeville and across many locations in Central Minnesota.

The fastest speed a falling raindrop can hit you is at 18 mph.
