Wednesday's Area Weather: 50-degrees in our future?

I have to keep checking the calendar to make sure it isn't November or December. It really is only October despite our recent wintry weather.

Some light snow fell across the area on Friday. A few spots picked up 2" of snow by Saturday morning. I hadn't put away all my summer outdoor items before we bypassed fall and jumped head first into winter weather! Some scattered flurries fell across the area over the weekend as well.

Another disturbance pushed through Monday. A Winter Weather Advisory was posted for Southern Minnesota for Monday as up to 3" of additional snow fell. It is going to be a fairly active weather pattern for the week ahead as we will have chances for rain or snow through the weekend. Temperatures should moderate a bit by late in the week into the weekend.

Unfortunately, I don't see any big warm-up in the near future. The 30 day outlook calls for temps to return to more "normal," but the precipitation outlook calls for above normal amounts. The good news is that with the colder temperatures our pollen levels have fallen! I have to look for a bright spot somewhere...

In 1966 an "enormous" hailstone crashed through the windshield of an unlucky truck near Claremont in Dodge County. It was reported to be 16 inches in circumference. Explain that one to the insurance company.

It is reported that in 1939, a man was caught in a downpour and ran for cover. When he looked up to the sky he saw large dark lumps falling. What was it? It was hundred of small frogs falling from the sky and had been picked up by a tornado miles away and were now falling on him.
