Area Weather: Area weather to turn hot then back to cold

For those of us who weren't around during the heat and dry conditions back in the 1930s during the Dust Bowl Era, we do remember the record heat during the summer of 1988. In fact, it was on this date back in 1988 that a record high of 95 degrees was reported in Alexandria. St. Cloud and Moorhead both hit 91 degrees.

Many record high temperatures were set during that summer around the state and the Midwest. I was living in Grand Forks at the time working radio and I remember what a hot summer it was.

This week we could see some of the hottest stretch of weather this summer, but it will be short-lived as colder weather returns by late in the week and into the weekend. Have a great rest of the week!

The highest temperatures of the year often occur in mid August. The land is at its warmest because of the cumulative effects of maximum heating in June and July.

In 2000, record setting dew points were reported in Minnesota. The Twin Cities had a dew point of 76 with a rare 80-degree dew point reported at Faribault.
