My weather update is beginning to sound like a broken record as again this week we only had a few light showers. So far the saving grace for the crops has been some cooler than normal weather so they still look fairly good. I have also seen more ditch haying than normal in the area this year.

In St. John's/Kongsvinger parish news: On Aug. 2 there will be joint services at St. John's at 10:15 a.m. followed by a potluck dinner. Everyone who is planning on attending Vacation Bible School this year is encouraged to attend worship services that morning and meet and visit with the VBS counselors and staff. Please note that this a change from our summer schedule announced earlier.

The parish will be participating in the Luther Crest VBS day camp to be held at Bethel Lutheran in Herman Aug 2-6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is still time to register for it. Contact either church office for more information.

There are two upcoming events at the Hosanna Worship Center in Morris. "A Night of Ministry for Women" will be held July 28th at 7 p.m. "Special Touch Time's Pioneer Day" will be held on Aug. 1 from 1-3:30 p.m. Call 589-8828 before July 29 to register.

A St. John's/Kongsvinger parish golf outing will be held on Aug. 9 at Red Rock near Hoffman and a Luther Crest Golf Scramble will be held at the Geneva Golf Course in Alexandria on Aug. 10. Contact the parish office for more details.

Trinity Lutheran Church in Alberta will be having a sweet corn feed on Aug. 2 from 5-7 p.m. behind the church.

The West Central Area Word Alone Chapter will be meeting at Indherred Lutheran Church north of Starbuck on Aug. 1. The program will be a prayer and hymn service in preparation for the ELCA church-wide assembly in Minneapolis. Coffee fellowship is at 9:30 a.m. with the program at 10 a.m. For more info call 795-2477.

There will be a bridal shower for Amanda Henrichs, bride to be of Josh Anderson today (Saturday) from 7-9 p.m. at Kongsvinger. Her parents are Glen and Judy. His parents are Mark Anderson and Gladys Anderson, Shelly Anderson and Neil Peterson.

On July 27th the Stevens County Republican party will be meeting at DeToy's in Morris, at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome. For more information call 795-2439.

There will be a benefit supper Aug. 8 at the Morris American Legion for Brian Flaten, who has cancer. A silent auction will also be held in conjunction with the benefit. Items for the auction can be left at Jen Fults's home, 200 E 4th Street, in Donnelly, across the street from St. Theresia's church. For more information, call 589-1553.

Congratulations to Dr. Eugene and Cathy Anderson who celebrated their 40th anniversary on July 20. His mother is Mae Anderson. Cards can be sent to them at 511 W 10th St., Morris, MN 56267.

Beaux Clarence Johnson was born on July 9, 2009 at Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris to Jada Siegel and Derek Johnson of Correll. Grandparents are Neil and Janet Siegel of Wheaton and Kevin and Lisa Johnson of Appleton. Great grandparents are Lorise Siegel, John DeLong, Clarence Johnson, Doris Johnson, and Annette Moen.

On July 17 I traveled to De Smet, S.D. for some sightseeing and to attend their Wilder Pageant. Enroute there I stopped to visit with Jim and Julie Busse at their home in rural Appleton.

On July 19, Jim and Lou Eystad and I attended the funeral for Cliff Skoglund at St. John's. In the afternoon, we took in the benefit supper for Jon Huebner at Faith Lutheran Church in Morris. I had a chance to talk to Brian Flaten there. He says he is doing okay for now.

Later Pearl (Albert) Anderson and I attended the 40th birthday party for Meriel Cardwell at Pomme de Terre Park in Morris. Enroute home I made a brief stop at the Old #1 Southside in Morris. Several current and former Donnelly area residents attended the wedding reception for Toni Kloos and Jon Hughes. I had a chance to visit with former Donnelly area resident Howard Huebner for a few minutes. He tells me he hopes to attend the Threshing Bee this year.

Congratulations to Eric Rundquist of Donnelly who recently graduated from Bemidji State University.

Congratulations to the Helping Hands team for raising the most money as part of the Stevens County Relay for Life. Susan Uphoff was the team captain. Her husband Jon lost his battle with cancer several years ago.

Pearl A. Anderson and some members of her family attended a family reunion in Wahpeton, N.D. on July 18.

Mark Olsen from Omaha, Neb. stopped in to see Lou Eystad at the Senior Center in Morris recently.

Jim and Lou Eystad attended the Thrivent Picnic at Pomme de Terre park on July 22. While eating we enjoyed the music of Lynn Shulz.
