I am glad so many of you are reading and enjoying my column despite my occasional mistakes.

We have had a few showers in the past week but again not the substantial rains that have fallen elsewhere. So far the crops are doing okay, but we do need rain.

In St. John's/Kongsvinger Parish news: The time of worship has switched in the parish. Kongsvinger services are at 8:30 a.m. and St. John's services are at 10:15 a.m. This schedule will remain in effect until Aug. 23. The regular schedule will resume in mid September.

Vacation Bible School will be held in conjunction with Bethel Lutheran Church in Herman this year from Aug 2-6. There is still time to register. Contact either church office for more information.

Thank you to everyone who helped with clean-up at Kongsvinger on July 11. Our church yard looks much nicer now.

The following events are taking place in the area today (Saturday):

There will be several benefits for former Donnelly resident Jon Huebner, who is being treated for leukemia. There is a two man 9 hole Golf scramble in the morning. A pork supper will be held at Faith Lutheran Church from 4-7 p.m. Jon's parents are Ralph and Mary, and his grandparents are Don and Joyce Huebner. A fund for the family has been established at Bank of the West in Morris.

The descendants of Martin and Ragna Erickson will have a family reunion at Kongsvinger beginning with a potluck dinner at noon. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The LTD memorial fishing tournament will held on Lake Minnewaska from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. The Water's Edge in Starbuck is the headquarters for the event.

The family of former Donnelly area resident Lloyd Brandt is having a card shower for him in honor of his 89th birthday. Cards can be sent to him at 103 School St., Belgrade, MN 56312. He is my former neighbor and was the "anchor" of the Kongsvinger Men's quartet and the choir for as long as I can remember as well as a Sunday School teacher.

Toni Kloos and Jon Hughes invite you help them celebrate their wedding at Old # 1 Southside on Saturday, July 18 beginning at 8 p.m.

The Stevens County Relay for Life continues today. Casey Lesmeister of Donnelly is honorary co-chair. Deanna Heuer of Donnelly is one of the organizers of the event.

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is sponsoring Lutheran Night at the Twins on Aug. 26, and Lutheran Night at the Red Hawks on Aug. 4. For more information about any of these events contact Thrivent Offices in Morris at 589-1731, or Elbow Lake at 218-685-4586 or your local Thrivent office.

"A Night of Ministry for Women" will be held at Hosanna Worship Center in Morris on July 28 at 7 p.m.

Vacation Bible School will be held at First Lutheran Church in Morris from July 19-23. They will be assembling care kits for our servicemen. Items needed are posted in the narthex of Kongsvinger and St. John's and are also listed on First Lutheran's Web site.

There will be bridal shower for Amanda Henrichs, daughter of Glen and Judy, on July 25 7-9 p.m. at Kongsvinger.

There will be a benefit supper and silent auction on Aug. 8 at the American Legion in Morris for Brian Flaten, who has cancer. Items for the auction can be left at Jen Fults's house, 200 E 4th St., in Donnelly, across the street from St. Theresia's church. For more information call 589-1553.

There will be a card shower in honor of the 40th anniversary of Dr. Eugene and Cathy Anderson of Morris. His mother is Mae Anderson. Cards can be sent to them at 511 W 10th St., Morris, MN 56267

Braylon Patrick Goodall was born on June 4 to Jon and Christine Goodall of West Fargo. Grandparents are Marlyn and Deb Riley of Elbow Lake, formerly of Donnelly.

Cliff Skoglund of Morris, formerly of Donnelly, passed away on July 15. His funeral is today (Saturday) at 10 a.m. at St. John's in Donnelly. Cliff was a good friend and I will miss the nice visits we over the years.

Congratulations to the Morris 14U baseball team which recently earned a trip to the state tournament. Tom Holland (Joe and Linda) is a member of that team.

Congratulations to Ashley Dohlen, who was named to the Dean's list at Bethany Lutheran College. Her parents are Gerald and Sharon Dohlen; grandparents are Clarence Giese and Amanda Dohlen.

Congratulations to Tyler Busse, who won the Demo Derby at the Big Stone County fair in Clinton on July 12th. His parents are Jim and Julie; grandparents are Verle and Della Dunn.

Congratulations to Travis Fults who won the 6 and under children's medallion hunt during Prairie Pioneer Days. His parents are Randy and Joan Fults; grandparents are Virgil and Theresa Fults.

Several of us from the area took in the WCROC Summer Station Day on July 10. Mark Erickson of Donnelly is on the advisory board for WCROC.

Later, I had a chance to visit with former Donnelly resident David Fluegel in his office. He informs me that he recently became a grandfather. He also informed me that all non-profit organizations in Stevens County are invited to a meeting in September.

In the evening, several of us took in the community supper and the finals of the Talent Show at East Side Park. Holly Giese and her mother Ditto Hennen won 3rd place.

On July 11 and 12, many attended the Prairie Pioneer Days festivities in Morris. Heather Aanerud pulled our threshing Bee royalty in the parade. Several other Donnelly area residents were also participants in the parade. Our royalty also helped out at the Bingo stand on Sun afternoon. Owen Gibson tied for second in his age group in the hot shot basketball contest. His parents are Jeff and Gayle; grandparents are Sam and Dorothy Jordheim.

On Sunday, as I was leaving the park Bill and Cindy Itzen stopped to visit. Cindy is a distant relative of mine and took care of my Mom when she was in the nursing home.

On July 13, the Donnelly Community Club met for our regular meeting as we finalized plans for the Threshing Bee. International Harvester will be featured this year. Some of the Saturday highlights include a pancake breakfast, tractor pull, queen coronation and dance. Some of the Sunday events include open air worship service, parade and pony/horse pull. There will be lots of food, demonstrations, displays and other activities both days. Advance sale buttons will be available through Aug. 28. The posters are here but we usually wait to post them until after the Stevens County fair. If you want one, let me know and I will make sure you get one.

The Kopacek family and I were among those who attended the RTA annual meeting in Barrett on July 15. After the meeting I stopped the Rolling Hills Assisted Living Place to visit Thelma Leegard.
