Morris VFW drops to 2nd place

Madison pitcher Sam Haas threw a complete game two-hitter, walking just two, while his teammates played errorless ball behind him, to defeat the Morris VFW by 3-0 on Tuesday at Chizek Field. Both teams entered the contest with 5-1 District 5 records in a three-way tie for first place with Willmar 1.

Eric Riley was the hard luck loser for Morris, also throwing a two-hitter, but he allowed five walks. Behind him, Post 5039 committed three errors, including two costly ones in Madison's three-run third inning. Only one of the runs Riley allowed was earned.

Tyler Hansen led off the game with a single and E. Riley had a seventh inning double for the only Morris hits. Hansen also walked in the fourth and Taylor Hufford walked in the sixth as Morris was only able to get those four base runners for the game.

Madison also won the second game by a score of 7-4. Mitch Kill, Ethan Bruer, and Travis Rinkenberger all pitched for Morris. Hufford, Bruer, Kill, Brady Valnes, Ryan Beyer, and Hansen all hit safely for Morris with Hufford, Kill and Valnes driving in runs. Cody Hickman scored twice for Post 5039.
