Morris Legion wins 2 with 12 runs each
The Morris American Legion baseball team improves to 3-3 overall and 3-0 in District 7 games with wins over Wheaton and Benson this week.
Post 29 travels to Aberdeen this weekend to participate in the Smitty's Wood Bat Tournament. Morris plays five games this weekend before returning to league action Monday at Chokio.
Dustin Sauter's RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning scored Matt Wohlers with the game-ending run as Morris defeated Wheaton 12-2 Monday night at Chizek Field.
The hit was Sauter's third of the night as Post 29 pounded out 12 hits. Mikey Siegel, Nate Gades and Tanner Berning each had two hits. Darrick Henrichs, Jordan Fletcher and Jon Jallo had one hit apiece. Jallo's was a solo home run to lead off the sixth inning. It was his first of the year.
Gades tossed a complete game, four-hitter for Morris. The lefthander gave up two unearned runs with four walks and eight strike outs over six innings.
Morris scored four runs in the first, highlighted by Berning's run-scoring double.
Morris scored three runs in four of the last five innings to come back from a 5-0 deficit and a 12-6 win Thursday night in Benson.
Post 29 pounded out 17 hits against three Benson pitchers. The top three hitters in the Morris lineup, Henrichs, Siegel and Sauter, went a combined 11 for 14 with eight runs scored and seven runs driven in.
Sauter had five hits and four RBIs, including a two-run double in the seventh. Siegel had four hits and drove in two runs and Henrichs had two hits. Wohlers added two hits for Post 29.
Wohlers was the winning pitcher going five innings. He allowed three hits, six runs, but only one earned, with eight walks and two strikeouts.
Matt Lembcke pitched the last two innings and did not allow a hit or a walk and he struck out two to pick up the save.
