Morris Area golfers improve as boys' season winds down

Morris Area boys continue to improve on the golf courses during the second half of the West Central Conference South schedule.

On April 30 at Montevideo, the Tigers finished fifth of nine teams in the conference with a score of 176.

Jordan Kolden posted a 42 to lead the Tigers. Corey O'Keefe carded a 43, Tyler Meichsner posted a 44, and John Nissen had a 47 to complete the team score.

Other Tiger scores were a 57 for Grant Gagner and a 59 for Alex Sinclair.

Montevideo won on the Thunder Hawks' home course of The Crossings with a 169.

Benson's Sam Peterson was the medalist with a 38.

At the Island Pine course in Atwater on May 5, the Tigers moved up to third place with a team score of 167.

Meichsner was in a three-way tie for first with a 37. Taylor Olson of Yellow Medicine East and Pierce Peters of Minnewaska Area also carded 37s.

Kolden posted a 41, O'Keefe carded a 43, and Nissen had a 46 for the Tigers. Other scores were Tim Ostby's 50 and Gagner's 53.

YME won the match with a score of 161. BOLD also came in with a 167, but won the tie breaker to take second place.

On May 7 at the Benson Golf Club, the Tigers took fourth place with a 172.

O'Keefe was part of a six-way tie for fifth place with a 41.

Kolden carded a 43, while both Meichsner and Ostby posted a 44. Nissen and Gagner had 51s.

The medalist was from the winning team of YME. Tyler Jensvold had a 36 to lead the Sting to a score of 165.

In Paynesville Tuesday, the Tigers took fourth place again with 188.

O'Keefe, Kolden, and Meichsner all carded 46, tying for eighth place with Jacobey Johnson of Montevideo.

Ostby's 50 completed the team score.

Nissen carded a 54 and Gagner posted a 57.

Nick Molitor and Pierce Peters both posted 40s to lead all golfers and help Minnewaska Area win with a 179.

The regular season wrapped up Thursday at the Granite Run Golf Club in Granite Falls.

Morris Area finished in fifth place with a score of 172.

O'Keefe was on the leaderboard in a five-way tie for seventh with a 41.

Ostby carded a 43, while Nissen and Meichsner both posted 44s.

Kolden had a 46 and Travis Tonn had a 47 to round out the Tiger scores.

YME won the match with a 155 led by Taylor Olson and Tyler Jansvold posting 36s. Sam Peterson of Benson also carded a 36 to lead all golfers.
