Kiwanis' annual Talent Contest taking entrance applications

The Morris Kiwanis is once again sponsoring its Talent Contest, open to the public and culminating with the final show during Prairie Pioneer Days.

The first 40 entrants will be accepted to compete in the contest. Contestants will compete in one of four preliminary nights in June. The final contest at the opening of the Prairie Pioneer Days on July 10.

The contest is open to individuals or groups. Each contestant will be permitted to perform two acts with a total time limit of 10 minutes.

Participants are asked to enter by providing a $50 entrance fee bond, which is fully refundable at the close of their participation. Entrants will have their choice of participating on the evenings of June 4, 11, 18, and 25 as long as openings on those nights are available.

In the event of inclement weather, the contest will be conducted on the following Friday nights. Prizes for the first and second place winners of the preliminary contests are $50 and $25, with all three places from each evening also eligible to compete for the grand prizes on Friday evening, July 10.

The Grand Prizes are: First place-$500; second place-$300; and third place- $100. These events will be held in the Killoran Music Arts facility located in East Side Park in Morris.

Each event will begin at 7 p.m. and continue until the evening's program is completed.

Contestants complete entry by forwarding the $50 appearance bond to Morris Kiwanis Talent Contents, c/o chairman Ken Hodgson, P.O. Box 173, Morris, MN 56267. Appearance bonds, in the form of a check are held until the contest date. Earliest postmarks receive choice of date for competition. Morris Kiwanis will provide a piano and sound system for the contest. Contestants are responsible for their own accompanists if needed. Inquiries may be made by calling (320) 589-6237.

Students under the age of 18 must have their parent's permission to participate and should be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Group participation is limited to 50 members because of stage space.
